Illustrative Math: A New Elementary Math Resource
Students in grades 1-5 will have an additional 30 minutes, 4-5 days per week, to engage in hands-on, fluency-building activities (in Kindergarten, these fluency activities are built into the students’ regular math time). These fluency activities will focus on building efficiency and using strategic thinking in order to solve problems. Please contact your child’s teacher or me if you have any questions.
Additional Security Procedure
Car Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
The Madison Elementary staff is committed to providing a secure and organized process to ensure the safety of all children. Parents, please follow the listed procedures and join in our commitment to make this process simple and safe for all children.
It is against the law to use your cell phone while in any school zone.
Supervision does not occur until 9:00 AM. Children should not be left unattended before that time.
During arrival and dismissal times, we treat Mayo Drive as a one-way street. Traffic should only flow east.
Do not use Center Avenue to access the Drop-Off and Pick-Up line.
Pull forward as far as you can in the lane and parents stay in the vehicle.
Students should enter and exit their vehicle on the curbside, while you stay in your vehicle.
Park on nearby streets if your child requires assistance exiting the vehicle.
When leaving the Drop-off/Pick-Up Lane, please wait for all cars to load/unload. Cars should leave in the same order without passing others.
Please practice these procedures with your little ones so they are prepared and confident to exit the vehicle on time.

An Update Regarding Our Library Learning Center
All District 200 schools have a library learning center (LLC) that contains books that students can check out. At our school, students visit the LLC weekly to check out books with the assistance of the LLC Director and their classroom teacher. You can learn more about Madison’s LLC by visiting our school LLC website.
Destiny is the library management system used by all District 200 schools. This system is online and accessible to all parents and students through each school’s website. Destiny allows all parents and students to have access to the titles of books available in each school’s LLC. You can access it by going directly to our catalog search engine, clicking through the school website, or from a student’s classlink page. You do not need to be logged in to search the catalog, but students will need to log in for some of the more advanced features. I want to highlight a few features of Destiny available to all students and families.
Students can log in to their Destiny accounts from any device with online access. From there, they can see all books that are checked out to them. They can also put holds on titles that are checked out. Each student can create their own Favorites List to keep track of books they would like to check out.
Steps for creating a favorite list:
Log in to your school’s Destiny catalog using your child’s District 200 login information.
Find and open the record for the book you wish to add to your favorites list.
Click on the three dots toward the right of the screen.
Select “Add to Favorites”
A student’s favorites list is accessible by choosing “My Stuff” at the top of the screen.
If there are particular titles in our school's collection you don't wish your child to read or are not sure they will make the distinction on their own, reach out to your child's teacher and our LLC Director, Jessica Kleinpaste.
You can learn about Destiny and how to create a favorite list by viewing this video.
