Bulldog BARK
Weekly update
Week of February 7th- February 11th
"At NCHS every student graduates college and career ready with 21st century skills."
Message from the Principal's Desk
Bulldog students and families,
I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! On Friday the staff at NCHS had a professional development day where we reflected on the first semester data. We had a great discussion about the percentage of students who were not being successful in their classes, and how we can help. As a school we also looked at the number of students who are failing by individual course. Some of the takeaways when looking at the data was that many of our 9th grade students are not being successful and failing courses like English 9, Algebra 1, Biology, Tech Ed, PE1 and Foundations of Art. It is a new concept for our freshmen to have to earn credits in order to be promoted to the next grade. As students, freshman year is typically the first time that they realize that they can and will fail if they do not do the work and meet the standards required for a specific course. Starting the second semester gives these freshmen a fresh start to earn credits toward graduation. It is absolutely essential that students complete their class work, study for tests and ask for help when needed; please encourage them to do these things. Report cards were sent home on Thursday so please ask your student to look at their report card and talk to them about what they need to do to improve. In many cases students are doing exactly what they need to do and they are being successful, please also take the time to encourage and praise these students for their hard work, and for doing a great job.
As always we are here for every family, and we are just a phone call/email away.
