Mustang Messages
JANUARY
Welcoming January
Happy 2023 everyone!!!
Students have been busy getting back into the routine of school. We have spent time this week going over our schoolwide expectations of being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible in all areas of our building and bus. Teachers and staff refreshed memories for classroom spaces, bathrooms, hallways, the cafeteria as well as the playground. Students have done a wonderful job. Watch out for Mighty Mustangs to come home- they are a way of catching kids doing the right thing and are a celebration.
As many adults set goals, we are working on setting and making steady progress for student goals. You will see progress reports come through ParentSquare next month but in the meantime, please ask your child what they are working on in reading or what type of math they are doing. Specific questions about subjects might be more successful than something open-ended 'like how is school going?' :)
All good things- Melissa Holz
Car Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
Morning Drop Off
* Pull up as far as possible to allow as many students as possible to unload & prevent a backup on Davis
* Do not drop off students before the crosswalk
* Once your student has exited the car please pull out to allow other people to unload
* Be aware of students and adults crossing the parking lot
* Only drop your student off on the curb, not the inside lane
Afternoon Pick Up
**NEW** Form two lines before the turn and alternate merging to one lane (This is to prevent a backup on Davis)
* Students should enter the car from the sidewalk side
* If your student needs help buckling their seatbelt or carseat please park and pick up your student at the front of the school. If this is not an option, wait to load your student until you are at the front of the line.
* Please do not leave your vehicle unattended
* Pull as far forward as possible
Thank you for helping us make arrival and dismissal as safe and quick as possible!
Did you know, you can use your student library card to unlock…e-books?
Download e-books and audiobooks on your phone, tablet or computer. Choose from popular titles, picture books, books for early readers and much more.
And, when you’re ready, don’t miss our collection of e-books for teens.
Resolve to Be More Active! Welcome back to school!
January is a perfect time to try walking or biking to school -- for your health, your community, and the planet! 1 mile of walking each way to school equals 2/3 of the daily recommended 60 minutes of physical activity. Get your steps in while decreasing the traffic and air pollution around your school and neighborhood.
- Find your school's preferred walk/bike route on our interactive Safe Routes to School maps. Elementary School Maps, Middle School Maps, High School Maps
- When you're out and about, keep your EYES and EARS OPEN, phones down and heads up. Know what’s going on around you. Have fun with your active commute!

Inclement Weather Information- Repeat
The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely, the ability of parents and students to drive safely, and the ability of students to walk safely. Decisions are made for the entire District. However, we encourage families to make transportation and attendance decisions for their children based on their own assessment of travel conditions at their locations.
For the latest inclement weather information:
- Check the district website. A page pop-up will be posted if there’s a change in school operations.
- The BSD Public Safety webpage has information about inclement weather procedures and snow routes. Log on and click “Inclement Weather Information.”

Immunizations and Flu
Please ensure your child is up to date on all immunizations. Any child not up to date will be excluded from school on exclusion day (February 15th, 2023) until immunizations are complete. Please contact your health care provider and start any "catch-up" now.
Be a Flu Fighter this year! Cold and flu season has arrived, and this is a great time to get your flu vaccines. There are many flu vaccine options to choose from, but the most important thing is that all people 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year. Talk with your provider about which flu vaccine is best for you and your children.
Take everyday actions to stop the spread of germs. Wash your hands often with soap and water and cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you become sick, limit your contact with others to keep from infecting them. Please refer to our too sick for school guidelines to help you make the decision about when to keep your child home from school.
Please feel free to contact our school nurse with any questions. She can provide you with additional resources about vaccinations and other health topics. To learn more about adolescent vaccines, please visit the CDC’s website at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/parents.
