from the principal

To the Bourchier Street School Community

I would like to let you all know that I am resigning from my position as Principal of Bourchier St PS at the end January 2023.

Bourchier Street PS has been part of my life for a long time and I have loved my time here. Bourchier St PS has an amazing community full of great teachers, fabulous kids and super parents.

I will be forever grateful to this community for helping me enjoy my teaching career. Everyday has been different, there has always been happy faces to chat to, there has always been many fun times to enjoy and there has always been many things to celebrate.

Bourchier St PS is in a great place with some excellent emerging leaders. I feel it will continue to be the BEST school.

Gary D’arma will be the Acting Principal for Term One. Gary is incredibly committed to the success of our school. You all know Gary well and I feel very confident that he will continue to create a fantastic learning environment for all children here at Bourchier St PS.

Congratulations to Gary!

During Term One the Principal position will be advertised widely and a new Principal will be selected to take up this position permanently from the beginning of Term Two, 2023.

This is our last newsletter for 2022. There are many things happening during the next week and a half. Our whole school will be celebrating all things good about 2022!

Good luck to all our 2022 Year Six student as they finish primary school here at Bourchier. I am sure the new phase in their lives at secondary college will be exciting. I would like to thank them for contributing to our great school over the past 7 years.

We also have some staff leaving. Maddy Combridge, Meg Brown, Jane Shattock, Tayla Yze, Jordan Michel and Keeley Madgwick who are all intending to take on new challenges next year. They have all fulfilled roles that have helped create our great school. I would like to sincerely thank them also for their contribution and wish them good luck.

Thank you all for your support and best wishes for a very happy and safe Christmas.

Kind regards

Denise

year 6 Canberra camp

This week our Year 6’s have been experiencing an education tour of the national capital. Students have been given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. Some highlights have been Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, the Royal Mint, Questacon and Mount Ainslie. Each night we have been enjoying ourselves away from camp by going swimming and rock climbing.

All staff and students will have many stories to share when we return to Shepparton on Friday night.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Junior School learn to tie their shoe laces!

Thank you so much to Chris from Ascent for coming to Bourchier Street and teaching our Junior School students to tie their shoelaces. An important life skill that can be very challenging to get the hang of, tying shoelaces is no easy feat. But with Chris’ handy tips and the colour-coded laces on our students’ new shoe pencil cases we were able to get closer than before!

Students were so engaged with Chris’ tips and enjoyed following along the great tutorial to get their laces perfect. We encourage all junior students and their families to keep practising at home to perfect this skill!

In the final session for the day students will complete an Orientation Day Survey, partake in ‘Getting to know my class’ activities and end with a photo of our Year 7 Class of 2023.
