MARINER MEMO
11/08 - 11/12/2021
PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
I hope that all of our students had a lovely Friday exploring, adventuring, and doing things that brought them joy. Our staff engaged in professional learning and had the afternoon to do individual planning time. Thursday was the end of the first quarter, so there are lots of things to finish up this time of year.
The month of November is Native American Heritage Month. Monday, we started the day with the following land acknowledgment.
We, Sehome High School as part of Bellingham Public Schools, acknowledge we are residing on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Lummi People. The Lummi People are the original inhabitants of Washington's northernmost coast and southern British Columbia. They lived in villages throughout this territory and continue to have an ongoing relationship with these areas. Since Time Immemorial they have celebrated life on their land, waterways, and on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of their People to perpetuate their way of life. Please join us in taking a moment of silence as we honor their ancestors and as we acknowledge the past, present, and future Lummi People as the original inhabitants of this land.
We have other events planned throughout the month to celebrate the Native American people, history, and culture.
This week, we celebrate Veteran's Day on Thursday. Our student leadership class is planning several different events to celebrate. One of them is a slideshow with veterans from the Sehome community. To submit information about a veteran that is special to you and your family, please complete this form. We do not have school on Thursday this week in honor of Veterans day. We do, however, have school again on Friday. We are thankful for the service of our veterans and honor you on this day.
I hope each of you have an incredible week. I am thankful for each one of you.

9 - LASAGNALOVE.ORG - WHO NEEDS A HOT MEAL?
Message from one of our Sehome parents -
WHO NEEDS A HOT MEAL?
I just signed up to be a volunteer chef for a nationwide organization called Lasagna Love. AND, I learned after having no matches in week 1 that they do not have many meal requests from Bellingham. So this is a reach out – if you know ANYONE in Bellingham or nearby who is having a hard time with food, time, or money, and would benefit from a free family size lasagna, please send them to this organization to learn more and to request (top right menu) a lasagna for themselves or for someone they know. Then I can start cooking and taking care of my community. And of course, if you would like to volunteer to cook like I did, you can do that below too.

16 -REMINDER FROM SCHOOL NURSE
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
When a student requires medication at school, either prescription or over the counter (OTC), parents/guardians must return a completed medication authorization form with directions from a licensed health care provider (LHCP) to Sehome. One exception is that certain OTC medications that are self-administered do not require LHCP instructions, but they do require a parent/guardian to complete the medication authorization form. There is no situation that a student taking medications at school does not need a medication authorization on file.
The privilege of students self-caring their medications, whether prescription or OTC, requires students to take their medication as instructed on the authorization and being aware that they may not share their medications with anyone. Medications brought to school must be in the original prescription container or manufacturers labelled OTC container. Medication authorizations expire at the end of the current school year, or sooner as per LHCP instructions.
