WIDA Testing for 6th Grade
WIDA testing for 6th Grade students will take place on Wednesday, February 1, and Thursday, February 2, 2023. Students required to participate in the WIDA test were notified this week.
There are two sessions and your child will participate in both sessions each day:
Session 1: 8:45am - 10:19am
Session 2: 12:31pm - 2:05pm.
The WIDA assess your child on English language proficiency and they are tested in four domains: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
It is an important test, so please make to do the following:
1. Student comes to school with their Chromebook fully charged.
2. Student eats a good breakfast.
3. Please discuss the importance of this test with your child and encourage them to try their very best. Students with an overall score of 4.5 or higher, will be considered proficient and will not be required to take the WIDA assessment next year.

Inappropriate Browsers on Student Chromebooks
Please remember students are not allowed to install any additional software on their school Chromebooks. These are borrowed computers and must only be used for school purposes and approved online programs from CCSD. Please help by checking your child's computer for any software that might have been added.
Students are subject to discipline if they have anything inappropriate on their Chromebook. This includes the browsers listed below.

SPORTS
Bus Evacuation Drills Occurring January 30–February 3, 2023
Student safety is a top priority when transporting students to and from school. Bus drivers will conduct evacuation drills in the mornings during the week of January 30, 2023, through February 3, 2023. Per Nevada Revised Statutes 386.820, all the pupils in the school district who ride a school bus must practice the evacuation at least twice each school year. There may be a delay in buses departing the bus loading zone while they are working with the students to complete the drills.
Soccer Tryout
Soccer Tryouts for boys and girls are scheduled for February 21, 2023
A sports physical is a requirement of aktivate.com (previously registermyathlete.com) where final registration to try out for the team will be done. If you are interested in trying out for Soccer Knudson please begin your registration at aktivate.com Once fully registered, your athlete will be eligible to try out for the team. Tryouts do not guarantee placement on a team.
Registration includes but is not limited to: a GPA check, proof of insurance, proof of residence, and a health physical completed by a licensed professional. The medical physical papers the doctor needs to fill out can be downloaded from aktivate.com or picked from the Student Success Center at KO Knudson Middle School during office hours.
K.O. Basketball
Admission to all CCSD middle school basketball games is $3 for adults and $1 for students. Students must have their school id to be able to enter the event without a guardian.
Some away venues may require all student spectators to be accompanied by an adult. We look forward to seeing you in the stands cheering on our KO Basketball players!

After School Clubs
Please check our website (knudsonms.org) for a current list of after school clubs. Students should also listen to our student announcements In The Know for more details about when and where clubs meet. If your child is a regular bus rider, they may take the late bus at 4:00pm when staying after for clubs. All other students will need to be picked up NO LATER than 3:45pm.

Family Academy
The Clark County School District (CCSD) Family Engagement Department is inviting families to participate in Family Academy which is an expansion of Super Saturdays to include adult learning sessions as well as family learning sessions.

WALKER FURNITURE READING REIMAGINED COMPETITION
Walker Furniture invites all CCSD students to submit a call for entry to Reading Reimagined, a literary and visual art competition. Each student is asked to write a short book report and create an illustration based on their favorite or most engaging book read during Nevada Reading Week. Please do not recreate any of the art illustrations from the book. Rather, we invite you to create your unique interpretation of the most intriguing aspect of the book.
Attached are the guidelines for Reading Reimagined competition along with the book report template. Each book report must be created on the two-page template provided – one side for text writing and the other for illustration. All CCSD grade levels are eligible to participate.

- A printed legible label must be adhered to the back of each submission. The information on this label must include: student name, grade, teacher’s last name, school name.
- Entries must be received in the Community Engagement Office by Thursday, March 9, 2023.

GEAR UP is providing after school homework help to Knudson Students. In order to sign your student up, please scan the QR code on the flyer attached or click on the link provided below. Please understand that we are limited on tutors so the amount of students accepted will depend on how many tutors we have for that day. An email with what days your student may come to tutoring will be sent out to you and your student at least 24 hours before. Please read the flyer for more information.
