News From the Office
Stay Safe
So What Does Happen?
When a student comes to the office because he is not feeling well; we take their temperature. If it is 100.4 F or greater, a parent is called for immediate pick-up, and the student is moved to the quarantine room.
If the student has a temperature lower than 100.4 F, we begin to ask the student of other health concerns such as a new or worsening cough are they having shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. We then ask the parents if they have had close contact with individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 or if you've traveled anywhere out of the state or country.
After, we ask the student, do they have a headache, sore throat, loss of smell or taste, do they have a runny nose or congestion, muscle or body aches, stomach pains, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
If a student indicates they have two or more of the above symptoms, we quarantine him and call for immediate pick-up.
To return, we must have clinician documentation noting the date the student is safe to return or completed a 14-day quarantine and have improvement of symptoms and fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication.
Please know the office staff handles each case with care and confidentiality. When in doubt, keep your child home, and please indicate on the attendance line why your child is not attending school.
Yearbooks
The 2019-2020 Yearbooks are in the office. We do have a few extras available for purchase if you forgot to order one. They are $10 (cash only) and you can contact the office to reserve your copy.
**UPDATE**
For our BVA students who ordered a yearbook...You will be able to come up to Spencer this Wednesday, September 30 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM to pick up your students yearbook and art project from last year. The weather is looking like it will cooperate that day, so Ms. Lender will be out near the student drop off lane to distribute those items to you. To facilitate a smooth transaction, have the students name clearly printed on a piece of paper for Ms. Lender to see and she will give you your items.
Picture Day is Coming
Picture Day for our In-Person Roadrunners will be on Tuesday, October 13th. Picture Day for our Virtual (BVA) Roadrunners will be on Wednesday, October 14th from 9AM-Noon in the Multi-Purpose Room at Spencer. Our Picture Re-take Day is scheduled for December 1st.

Pink Week
For those of you new to Spencer, our community has traditionally held a week long "pink week" to raise funds for local organizations that support cancer survivors/patients/families. This year the focus is on elevating community morale. We would love for everyone to participate in the pink out Friday October 9th, whether you purchase a shirt or wear one you already have.
PINK WEEK SHIRTS ARE READY TO BE ORDERED! Pink Week will be October 5th - 9th, with the "Pink Out" on Friday October 9th.
IMPORTANT ORDERING INFO:
- if you are ordering for more than one child - CHOOSE ONE to have it delivered to. We are doing everything we can to help the schools with distribution.
- You may ship, pick up from our shop, deliver to school or deliver via BBFC. You will choose the product based on how you want to have your order delivered.
- you are welcome to come in to our shop to order. We have more options and products available for in store purchase only.
- This is a very quick turn around as Pink Week was just "approved" this morning - we appreciate your patience. Thank you.

The company is generously encouraging takeout and online orders. Use the code YL3PH2G when placing an order. We'll share more info as the date gets closer.
Annual Spencer T-Shirts
The beginning of the school year typically brings about our first fundraiser for the year, and along with it, our annual class t-shirts. Obviously, this year is going to look a little different. We will not be doing fundraising or asking for donations this year. Thanks to your generosity in past years, we have a bit of a surplus to get us through this year comfortably. That being said, the PTO will be giving each student (in-person and BVA) and staff member a class shirt. We ask that you please take a moment to fill out this form for each of your students so that they receive the proper size. (Please, no parent shirt orders this year.)
Technology Resource Guide
Hi Spencer Families!
I am happy to supply you with an at-home technology resource that we hope you find helpful! We hope that it has addressed any questions that have come up in the past. If something is not addressed, we will add to this resource. Have a great day!

Resources from the DNR
The COVID 19 pandemic has added uncertainty and stress to all of our lives. Parents and teachers are adjusting to “getting back to school” either in person or virtually—and each week brings challenges and changes to the plan. With five of my own school-age children, I’ve experienced both in-person and virtual learning and the struggles that each of those bring.
In a normal year, DNR visitor center staff would be shifting focus to providing school education programs and hosting field trips for about 60,000 students. But this year, teachers have asked for other options. Our education team developed Nature at School –a series of live, virtual lessons with Michigan students whether they are in classrooms or at home.
These presentations include pre/post visit materials, correlate to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and incorporate important agency messaging. Best of all, we bring some of our state’s most amazing public lands to their school/home. Fourth graders in Detroit can learn about biodiversity from the Porkies and a high school in Kalamazoo can learn about forestry from Hartwick Pines.
Feel free to pass this along to teachers and parents in your community. These are free programs conducted by your DNR colleagues. Check out the website www.michigan.gov/natureatschool or share this video: https://youtu.be/F3msDJSwGbQ.
