Elmwood News (8/27/18)
Week of August 27-31
Message from Principal Polomsky
Elmwood Parents & Community~
We thoroughly enjoyed our first full week of school and hope your kids did too. Your children deserve so much of the credit for working so hard this week and for demonstrating their SOAR (Safety, Ownership, Acceptance & Respect) traits at Elmwood.
Next week is a big week as we prepare for our annual Parent Orientation evening. We do hope to see all of you if you’re able to attend. Please see below for more information.
Once again, thank you for such a strong start to this school year.
Looking forward to ‘Making a Difference’ with all of you this school year!
Lisa

Safety and Parking Reminder: The safety of our students is our number one priority at Elmwood! With the cooperative environment created by students, staff and parents we are able to achieve our goal ensuring that all students arrive and depart school in a safe and timely fashion. We thank you for your continued support. Please review the Safety Rules and expectations for travel around Elmwood. When parking around Elmwood Elementary, on the neighborhood streets, please be aware of any parking restrictions. Please don’t block driveways or park on neighborhood streets which will inhibit neighborhood families a safe exit from their homes. Elmwood Parking Map
- Learning Commons Volunteers: Calling all volunteers. The LC is looking to fill some open volunteer spaces. It would be once per week for either a morning or afternoon shift for just a few hours. Responsibilities include checking out books, shelving books, and other organizational LC tasks. If this is something that may interest you please check out the LC volunteer schedule by clicking here. Then email Mr. Positano at mpositano@naperville203.org with a time slot that interests you.
- Makerspace Supplies: As the name implies, a makerspace is a space where students can make stuff. I am currently collecting items that will allow students to be create and innovate in a problem solving environment. In other words we’re going to build stuff from time to time. Some of the things that would be great to have in my makerspace bin would be items such as:
- Toilet paper tubes
- Paper towel tubes
- Plastic soda pop bottle caps or milk jug caps (washed please)
- Twist ties
- String
- Yarn
- Cool little containers (e.g. altoid tins, tic tac boxes)
- Fabric, felt, ribbon.
- Nuts, bolts, and washers
- Greeting cards that play music (I really just need the insides so you can take the greetings off if you’d like.).
- If you have some of these things laying around the house, and you wouldn’t mind sending them my way, students can drop any of these items at my (Mr. Positano’s) desk.
- Book Fair Volunteers: Yes, the book fair is still 6 weeks away, but it’s never too early to get those volunteer slots filled. If you can’t volunteer in the LC, but would like to volunteer a few hours during the Thursday evening or Friday morning of book fair we’d love to have you. You can look up the jobs and shifts by clicking here. There are links provided on the site to sign up directly.

This program is created and taught by PGA Professionals, to include lesson plans that are fun, safe, and educational. Youngsters will be given the opportunity to experiment with playing a variety of different shots. Our program teaches basic fundamentals, with plenty of variation for practicing and playing.
