Common Childhood conditions and illnesses: What these mean to the educator.Course Num: 161 (3)
Understanding a wide array of childhood illnesses can help you to better plan, teach, and diversify your instruction. We will learn about Fifth's Disease, Amblyopia, Scoliois, Bronchitis, Dermatitis, Strep Infections, Cholesteoma, Diabetes, Patella Femoral syndrome, etc. These conditions often affect children's attention and ability to learn, as well as their attendance. You will learn what to expect when a child has been diagnosed with such conditions, how they will be treated medically, and how you can prevent the spread of contagious illnesses.

The Kinesthetic Classroom: Teaching and Learning Through MovementCourse Num: 180 (3)
Modeling dynamic movement and kinesthetic activity to enliven K – 2 classroom content is a key part of this course. In addition, this course will focus on discovering the connection between movement, the brain and learning. We will discuss and examine implicit learning, class cohesion activities, content – based kinesthetic activities, brain breaks and energizers.

This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to NoodleTools - a citation and research management application. You will be able to set up an account and explore the basic features of NoodleTools. This application can be immediately used with students to create bibliographies and organize research.

CPR/AED for first time life saversCourse Num: 187 (3)
Learn how to respond quickly and effectively to an medical emergency by giving CPR and using an AED. You will gain the confidence and skills needed to save a life wherever you are. We will use hands on experience with a CPR mannequin and an AED trainer simulating a variety of situations. Learn one, two, and three person rescue techniques. Must attend both sessions for credit.

With the wonderful things technology brings, it also comes with a new set of challenges in maintaining integrity in the learning process and, as a result, in the classroom. This workshop is designed to start the conversation to consider the role of the learning environment in influencing academic integrity. This course is for district music and art teachers looking to collaborate with community organizations and to facilitate student performances/art shows in and around the Madison area. The session will focus on brainstorming ideas and developing action plans for community outreach. Attendees must participate in both session to earn credit.
