Every Student, Every Day, Deserves to Learn, Lead, & Excel!

Message from Ms. Perkins

Happy Friday everyone! Thank you to all of the parents who joined us for curriculum night this past Thursday. We hope you enjoyed meeting the classroom teacher and learning about the classroom routines and the grade level curriculum.

2nd grade students will be taking the Iowa Assessment next Wednesday, September 1, 2021 through Friday, September 3, 2021. It is very important that students get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive to school on time. Both in-person and digital students are expected to attend and participate.

Mark your calendars for a few other important dates in September. Monday, September 6, 2021 all GCPS schools will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Tuesday, September 14, 2021 will also be a Digital Learning Day. Students will stay home that day and access their lessons through their teacher's eCLASS course page. No live lessons will be available. We will check out devices to students in need on Monday, September 13, 2021 and they will need to return the devices on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. This is not a day off from school. Student work will be monitored.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Car Rider Reminders:

Please be sure to have your yellow tag visibly displayed by hanging it from the rear-view mirror. It is difficult to see car rider numbers when they are on the dashboard, hidden behind items on the rear-view mirror, or even low on window shields. Please note that if you do not have your yellow tag, you will have to go inside with a picture ID to pick up your car rider. This is to ensure the safety of your children. Thanks for your support as we continue to work towards a fast and safe dismissal of students in the afternoon.

Student Handbook ~ Student Conduct:

Our students are citizens of our school community. All students deserve a positive and orderly environment for learning. In order to achieve this, Simonton students have clear expectations for behavior and school rules that are consistent with our newly adopted and district supported Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Program as well as Gwinnett County Public Schools' policies for student management and discipline. The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Program is a research-based framework proven to provide practices and strategies for all students to increase academic performance, improve safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish a positive school culture. Students are encouraged to solve problems by taking responsibility for their actions, the consequences that result, and to develop plans of action that demonstrate positive ways to address difficult situations. Students that successfully follow Simonton behavior expectations will participate in school recognition and reward programs throughout the year. Ultimately, our goal is for Simonton students to develop into responsible, respectful and supportive.
