Winning the California High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year 2021-2022 is an honor that I could have never envisioned. Teaching in East LA has been so much fun that it doesn't feel like I am at work. I want to thank all my students for making my job fun and exciting. Humanitas Academy of Art and Technology students and faculty make me want to try harder every day. I want to give my best to help the students become lifelong movers...whatever that may look like for them!
Promoting Early Literacy Through Bilingual Parent Workshops
"To travel far there is no better ship than a book" has been the theme in the East LA primary schools. Through a partnership with The Latino Family Literacy Project, schools have been providing literacy workshops for parents where families have had the opportunity to read bilingual books, share their cultural backgrounds, reminisce on family stories, and share connections to their own life principles and values.
The goal of this project is to cultivate the enjoyment of reading as a family, while sharing strategies to promote reading at an early age. We look forward to continuing these bilingual literacy workshops during the next school year.
