Obsidian Middle School Updates ~ Friday, September 17th
This week, I'm sending a huge HOWL out to each of you! We have a lot to celebrate this week, and at the top of our list is that classes are in session and they're filled with our awesome Wolf Pack Scholars! Thank you for working so hard to help your students get connected and engaged in classes. You've been integral in this year's start ~ picking up Chromebooks, helping your students log in, calling us with questions, and supporting your student as they enter a new school year. From all of us at Obsidian, THANK YOU!
Across the Obsidian Wolf Community, we've seen incredible things happening in our virtual classrooms and our school. Teachers have done a tremendous job of learning Canvas at record speed. Students are clearly getting more and more familiar with Canvas and Google Meets. Several students are emerging as TECH EXPERTS in their classes, helping each other out, and keeping our learning moving forward. In the coming week, students will see their classes dive deeper into rich curriculum, now that we all have a basic understanding of our learning platforms.
Students ~ GREAT work this week! I'm proud of your respectfulness in your Google Meets and how you quickly learned so much about our new way of doing school this fall. If you helped a classmate this week, helped your teacher, asked a clarifying question, or pointed out something that wasn't right - thank you! Your teachers and classmates are learning so much, and I saw you building a helpful class community in the last 2 weeks ~ nice work! Here's a HOWL for you, too!
Check out some of the wonderful things happening around OMS!

We remembered the events of September 11th with a moment of silence during Wolf Den.
Mr. West was feeling lonely without students in his classroom! These showed up over the weekend.
Ms. Gordon let students get to know her using math. Activities like this were seen across our virtual campus.

Google Meet Nicknames/Codes: To increase security measures on Google Meets, some teachers are updating their nicknames/codes. Students - you can see the CORRECT nickname on the Homepage of each of your classes in Canvas. Remember, these codes look like your teacher's first and last name, our school and which period you're in (ex. jensinepeterson3-oms). If you are using a code you wrote down, be sure to check Canvas Monday to make sure it's still right. As always, give us a call if you have an question.
Athletics: Cross-country, volleyball, and football practices are beginning on September 21st. Please contact Athletic Director Jared Young for more information about dates, locations, and safety. firstname.lastname@example.org
Student Chromebooks and Tech Help: Librarians Mrs. Goeman and Mrs. Spinelli are here to help with tech issues! Please email them at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org for help!
