First Trimester Spirit Rally!
As a culminating school-wide celebration showcasing first trimester, Vikings attended a S.P.I.R.I.T. (Scholarship, Passion, Integrity, Reflection, Involvement, and Teamwork) Rally on December 20. I am so proud to share that we had over 575 students receive either Honor Roll (GPA between 3.0-3.49) or Principal’s Honor Roll (GPA between 3.5-4.0) certificates!
We also had 400 students without a single tardy this entire trimester! Awesome job Vikings!
We look forward to our next celebration at the end of second trimester. Below are a few pictures highlighting some of the performances.

Free Public Education
Section 5 of Article IX of the California Constitution guarantees students a “free and appropriate public education”. The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell, “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extracurricular as well as curricular, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities”. This same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State constitution”. Furthermore, the State Supreme Court also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged as long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay”. I would like to assure you that Cerro Villa Middle School does not engage in a “pay for play” system.
