Brooks Crossing & Deans School Newsletter - 6/21/19
Message from Joe Anzek, Interim Principal
As we wrap up the 2018-19 school year on Wednesday, June 26th, the students are combining fun and learning with the yearbook signings and farewell picnics/parties. The Fifth grade teachers and students distinguished themselves with a lively and dignified Recognition ceremony on Friday, June 21st. The students gave us much to be proud about.
Thank you to the Brooks Crossing and Deans community for the gracious welcome you extended to me. I have enjoyed my three months here. I look forward to continuing to be available until about July 20 when Ms. Maccarone will be eager to get started and to get to know everyone.
Have a great summer. Make sure all family members--even the grownups--have some time to relax and have fun.

Thank you Brooks Crossing PTO
We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the following 2018-2019 PTO Executive Board members; Ena Bedi, Sripriya Natarajan, Lynn Maiorano, Trupti Rane, Shazia Zirvi, Heather Zaccarelli, and Moushumi Joshi for volunteering their time to plan the many fundraising opportunities and family-friendly events that were held throughout this school year. We also appreciate the families and BC/DE staff members who joined the PTO, and/or volunteered time, as your support benefited our entire BC/DE school community!
If you did not join our Parent Teacher Organization this year, we hope you will for the 2019-2020 school year. Membership is just $10 per family and only with everyone's support can our students and school community enjoy assemblies, programs and receive funds to purchase items that we all can enjoy! This past school year, our PTO purchased large 10 seat picnic tables (one being ADA compliant), so our classes could enjoy learning and activities outside!
PLAN FOR OUR FINAL EARLY RELEASE DAYS IN JUNE - Mon. 6/24, Tues.6/25 & Wed. 6/26 Deans dismisses 12:45 & BC dismisses 12:50
Will your child miss the last day of school?
If your child will miss the last day(s) of school, due to planned travel, you must notify the main office and your child's teacher as soon as possible. You will be responsible for returning school items and collecting your child's personal belongings before their last day. This includes; returning library books, paying lunch account balances due in full, collecting their artwork and personal items, checking the Lost and Found for missing items, etc. Parents must also contact the Health Office to pick up any medications that were given to the nurses. Medications will NOT be sent home with students.
Some specialists are only on site a day or two, so it is imperative you plan ahead and reach out to them to collect what you need.
Final Semester Report Cards
The final semester report cards will be posted to the Genesis Parent Portal on Tuesday, June 25th. An email will be sent to parents when the report cards are available to view.
Please access your child's report card promptly and address any concerns with your child's teacher by June 26th, as this is the last day of school for students and staff.
At that time, all accelerated math decisions regarding current K-4 students will be communicated through a letter found in the documents tab in Genesis.

Student Placement for 2019-2020
You will find out your child's placement for the 2019-2020 school year by mid-to-late August. Please monitor the email addresses we have on file, as a notification will be emailed to you when the placement process has been completed and ready to be viewed in the Genesis Parent Portal.
A few friendly reminders:
- Access the Genesis Parent Portal at https://parents.sbschools.org.
- Complete and/or acknowledge ALL required forms. You will give your electronic signature to indicate you have read and understand the required documents before you can proceed further.
- Only after completing the required forms will you be given access to view your child's class placement and the Principal's Welcome Newsletter. This newsletter will contain very important information and procedures for the first days of school.
Our teachers have given much thought to how their students have progressed academically, socially and emotionally. They use this knowledge to help determine which teachers might be a great fit and match for each child for next school year. Please have confidence in our process, as we believe every one of our teachers know the students in their class very well and will be able to make excellent decisions regarding placement for next year.
