Emily Lyn

Mechanical Engineering Major

Facts about me.

I was born in Boca Raton, Florida. I went to Olympic Heights High School along with my younger brother, who is still there. I own two rescued guinea pigs. My father is an UCF alumni and my mother is going to FAU. In a way my father helped me choose my major. He is an environmental engineer and has introduced me to many different types of engineers and people who work with engineers. I choose not to follow his path of environmental engineering but decided to try to get a degree in mechanical engineering.

While trying to find some great reasons to go to UCF to present to my father, who didn't really want me following in his footsteps. I found out about the Excel/ Compass program. The more I read into the program the more I believed it could help me reach my goal of becoming a mechanical engineer. The program I think does this by kinda of forcing freshmen to create study habits by going into the Excel/Compass lab. It also lets me learn how to network and gives me the opportunity to network and meet new people.

An interesting fact about me is that I had AMPS.(Amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome) Some people under the age of 18 who get diagnosed with fibromyalgia and arthritis at the same time are actually misdiagnosed. In my case I was lucky. I wasn't to the point of being in a wheelchair when I got to the doctor. I was able to be cured in a little less then two months and I have not had a relapse since. I do hope to spread the word about AMPS because many people do not know it exist.
