Mr. Schu Visit Update

The visit with Mr. Schu will be at Killough on August 23, at 9am. The presentation will last between 70 and 90 minutes. His presentation is titled Ambassador's Schu's Review of Books for You and Your Reader's Too! Normally the presentation is for a K-6 audience but he will be adapting it for our K-12 audience and promises to provide everyone with book enthusiasm as the begin the new school year.

Mr. Schu is travels and speaks as a part of the Scholastic Reading Summit and his role with Scholastic was recently profiled in SLJ

Be sure to invite your Language Arts Specialists!

Library Circulation System Committee / Databases

During the afternoon portion of the September meeting we are going to have various hands-on break-out sessions. At the same time as those sessions, I would like a group to begin the evaluation process of various Library Circulation Systems. If you are interested in this committee, please e-mail me.

Also... to help pay for this change, we need to do some evaluating of our database purchasing. In the Discussion section of Schoology, I have created a Library Circulation System discussion. I need your feedback on this issue. Please check it out.

In the 2015-2016 school year Yvonne and her students worked on a great video that takes the place of much of the AUP/RUP training. She and Laneisha have a Google form that they use to track who watches the video. The students must fill out the form prior to receiving their log on credentials. While the video isn't for younger students, it's great for the older kids.

High School and Middle School After Hours

Campus Secretaries should have the budget codes and amounts already. I'm supposed to get copies of the codes by the end of the day today. Once that happens, I will forward them on to each of you.

Author Visits

I've talked with Cathy Berner from BlueWillow Bookshop about having author visits for our late elementary and intermediate students. She is working to find good author fits. When are able to make matches, Cathy and I have discussed having the author speak two times in the same day and busing students from multiple campuses to a single campus. These visits would not cost the campuses any author visit fees. At the district level, I would purchase some of the author's books from Blue Willow and those books would be distributed to the participating campuses.

TweensRead is October 21, at South Houston High School in Pasadena. I would like to see us, as a district, participate in some capacity. I have set aside money to order books for campuses who would like to participate. Please e-mail me if you are interested in taking a group of students from your campus. Bus grants open September 1, and I plan to apply for one - if there is interest.

Principal's Newsletter

An article is included from the Digital Learning Team in each issue of the Principal's Newsletter. Tech. Integrator, Lesley Ayers made the great suggestion that we share that information with the Techs. and Libs. There is now a Principal's Newsletter folder in Schoology>Resources. The first article for this school year involves Factitious a an interactive, web-based, customizable game designed to teach about fake news.
