Week of May 6
This past Friday, we held our annual Alkek Talent Show directed by Mrs. Kathleen Sarabia. The audience sat in awe as they watched each act and cheered on the contestants! Each of these kiddos worked hard for two months to perfect their performance and leave the audience in cheers and applause!
Not only did we get to witness the kids perform, but the Alkek teachers and staff also put on their annual Teacher Dance and boogied their way through a Bee Gee's song- "You Should Be Dancing!"
Talent shined bright at the show last Friday! We are so proud of each of the contestants and want to send a big Thank You to Mrs. Sarabia for all of her hard work and dedication to our students!
Continuing on the subject of talent, I would like to shift your gears just a bit to understanding how talent is found through our own halls of Alkek.
Talent as defined by Webster is:
*special often athletic, creative, or artistic aptitude
*general intelligence or mental power : ABILITY
*a person of talent or a group of persons of talent in a field or activity
*archaic : a characteristic feature, aptitude, or disposition of a person
Within each and every person there lies a talent. If you were to look at the definition of talent a little closer, you might find that talent is not a thing, but rather a process that leads to the building blocks of success.
In every classroom and every inch of Alkek, you will find the inner workings of talent being found through the process. Talent, in my eyes, is not something inherited or that you are born with. Talent is found through hard work and dedication. Talent is everywhere- - - Let's delve in deeper:
Talent is found through: Evolving, Adapting, and Learning:
When our kiddos enter Alkek, they are placed in an environment that is equipped to allow them to evolve, adapt to different situations, and begin learning. As they continue their path through education, each of them begin to find their own individual strengths and weaknesses. Along the way, our educators and staff are prepared to help them build on their talents through the process. Hard work and dedication to each student lead each of them to thinking of what they want to be when they grow up and finding what path will eventually lead to unleashing their best talents!
Talent is found through: Creativity and Innovation:
Elementary is the key age to helping kids find their creative sides. At a very young age, we begin to enhance their creative thinking. As their personalities evolve, our teachers allow the kids to become unconventional thinkers. Within these moments, we begin to find leaders, experimenters, game changers, shaker-uppers, and an abundance of hidden talents just waiting to be unleashed!
Talent is found through: Potential and Motivation
First and fore-most, the potential for developing talent is instilled in all of us. The best part about Alkek Elementary is the fact that our staff is 100% prepared to lay the groundwork of helping our students find theirs! Our teachers have the ability to deliver the path of success in the future, and recognize the value and hidden talents within each student while also allowing them to progress in the right direction. Alkek provides the perfect environment for kids to feel nurtured in order for their talents to emerge. Motivation is a high priority within our hallways and is how we are able to allow students find talents they weren't sure they had!
Every day at Alkek is a Talent Show. Every student leaves our school with many rewards from their performances. We are proud to represent each and every member of Alkek Elementary and we will continue to dig deeper each day to find the hidden talents just waiting to be unleashed!

She has worked for BISD for the past 21 years!
A little about Ms. Clark:
She has two boys: Matthew-15 and Joshua-21
She is a Libra born on October 8th!
Fun fact- As a Libra born on October 8th, your considerate and thoughtful nature are amongst your most appreciate qualities. You thrive for a social setting, where your understanding and sensitivity can emerge. You really do put the needs of others above your own, as it seems you would do just about anything for another human being.
Her favorite hobby outside of school and teaching are: photography and the occasional trip to Kickapoo!
Ms. Clark says there are too many books to count to tell her favorite one, but she loves:Harry Potter, Janet Evanovich, JD Robb, and Mary Higgins Clark
Stacey says she likes to watch cop/mysteries NCIS, Grey's Anatomy, and the Twilight movies on T.V.
Ms. Clark says she is an animal lover, she has a spoiled white fat cat named Bingo whom she has fights with over who can make the most hairballs! Haha- too funny!
Her favorite holiday is Christmas! She says she goes nuts decorating!
Stacey's favorite quote or words she tends to live by are:
"One Day at a Time!" and the Serenity Prayer.
When asked if she has a hero, Stacey says, "My mom who raised four kids as a single parent working several jobs."
Stacey says she is most proud of her kids! They are the joy of her life!
I asked Ms. Clark to tell us a little about how she ended up where she is now and she said, "Was a quiet kid in High school...went way rowdy and partied thru college...settled down and got married and raised two boys. Still working on raising them! Josh is a senior at Texas State and Matthew is a freshman at BHS."
We love having Ms. Clark with us here at Alkek!
Thanks for all you do, Stacey, we appreciate you so much!
