Linking Our School To Our Community September 17, 2021
Weekly News
Hello Middlebrook Families,
It was so nice seeing so many parents at Back To School Night! We thank you for attending to learn all about your child's daily routines and experiences at school. It's so great to be able to have these events in person.
I'm happy to share our school wide event that took place this week. If you noticed, there was a bulletin board in our front hallway displaying "dots" decorated by our students. Each grade level was assigned a colored background and every student used that color to decorate his/her dot to be displayed. The story, "The Dot" was shared and discussed in each of the classrooms. In the story, Vashti felt like she couldn’t draw — but her art teacher wouldn’t accept that. “Just make a mark, and see where it takes you,” the teacher said to Vashti. So, she marked her parchment paper with a small dot. The next day, Vashti was surprised to find her paper with the dot on the classroom wall. Vashti was so proud of her work that she started creating drawings with different kinds of dots. Eventually, Vashti was able to pass the lesson about confidence that she had learned from her teacher onto someone else. A dot might be small, but it’s a powerful way to show your unique individuality and creativity. And that’s the story that inspired International Dot Day.
The children loved it. Most classes were able to see a live chat with author Peter Reynolds. I shared a picture of our bulletin board below.

Trumbull Sustainability Clean Up Event
Spirit Wear Fundraiser
Middlebrook Elementary is kicking off an important fundraiser centered around kindness! We have teamed up with a clothing company, Kind Cotton for the second year in a row! Kind Cotton was established by a Kindergarten teacher in Florida, Kaitlin Johnstone and her husband. Kind Cotton sells clothing with messages on them to encourage kindness and empathy. The best part? For every item they sell, it puts a book in the hands of a child! They have started a reading program with a local Boys and Girls Club in Sarasota, Florida, where they go each month and provide fun literacy activities. At the end of each visit, every child leaves with a copy of their own book! If you are interested in supporting this fundraiser, click the link below! A portion of the sales will also go back to our school! Simply click the link below and be sure to add teacher and student name (if you are a teacher, simply put your name in both spaces) when you checkout. Items can also be shipped directly to houses, so feel free to share via email/social media with friends and family all over! Thank you! Kindness can change the world!!!
Sale goes from September 20th - September 30th.
