MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
95th Edition: December 7, 2018
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
A Message from Mr. DeFrisco
Dear Parents,
Advent is here, and what a beautiful Liturgical season it is, filled with joy and love. Advent (from “ad-venire” or “to come”) is a time of waiting that helps us prepare our hearts and minds for the anniversary of our Lord’s birth on Christmas. It truly is a purposeful time of waiting, and in that waiting, we look forward with hope.
Marian Central is blessed to have incorporated into the curriculum FORMED on Demand which is an Internet-based subscription service offering access to thousands of studies, films, audios, and eBooks. The Augustine Institute, Ignatius Press, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops are just a few of the content producers for the materials that are available through this valuable service.
As we continue to celebrate the Advent season, I have included a link from FORMED and invite you to access this reflection as we prepare for the birth of our Savior. I found this short video inspiring and uplifting, I hope you find it inspirational as well.
Marian parents are invited to join FORMED. Simply visit marian.formed.org , click on “Register Now” and create your account (email and password). For future visits, enter your sign-in info and choose step 2. Once you create your account, you will be on Marian’s FORMED page. You will be able to explore all of FORMED resources.
Please know of our appreciation for our entire school community and that we include each of you in our daily prayers. On behalf of Marian Central’s faculty and staff, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and Healthy New Year.
Sincerely in Christ,
Vito C. DeFrisco
Interim Superintendent

Important Information for all Juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT in October
PSAT/NMSQT scores will be released online between December 10-12. To see scores and get test performance feedback, students must either log in to or create a College Board account online by visiting studentscores.collegeboard.org.
In addition to access to the full score report, students will also be able to connect with tools such as free, personalized practice for the SAT on Khan Academy, potential for AP coursework, and college and career planning resources at BigFuture™.
Marian will receive a paper score report for each student sometime in December. Mr. Kruse and Mrs. Hilton will be visiting the juniors within their English classrooms sometime in early January to present and give an overview of the paper reports as well as to share additional future planning resources available from the College Board.
Students are encouraged to see their Guidance Counselor, Mr. Kruse, for any questions regarding PSAT results.
NEW Library Student Tech Support Hours
The 1:1 Device integration is going so well - we are able to stream-line our tech assistance sessions for all our students! Should students have any technical issues with their devices, they are welcome to visit Mrs. Varga in the library during the following times:
- First 20 minutes of first period (8:05 - 8:25)
- Periods 4/5/6 (10:41 - 11:55)
- Last 20 minutes of ninth period (2:10 - 2:30)
Back by Popular Demand - Practice ACT
This coming January and March, the Marian Library will offer two more Practice ACT tests for Sophomores and Juniors only. Test seating is limited to the first 25 students to register. The registration link for the January 16/17 test will be sent out in the December 14 Friday Focus. In the spirit of fairness, no one will be allowed to register prior to December 14, or without a completed registration form. Before registering, please check your calendar carefully, to make sure your student can attend both sessions.
TUITION PAYMENTS DUE DECEMBER 18TH!
REMINDER TO ALL FAMILIES -- all tuition accounts should be at least half paid at this time. Per policy: No student will be allowed to take first semester exams unless his/her tuition is current. Therefore, a minimum of one-half of the family tuition must be paid prior to the first semester exam December 19th. We will be sending emails to outstanding families next week and will talk to students December 18th if the tuition is still unpaid at that time. If you are unsure if your account is half paid and if your student will be eligible to take semester exams, please contract Mrs. Murwin -- pmurwin@marian.com.
