Valentine's Day and Sledding
We had so much fun on Thursday! Thanks to Mrs. Liddy for helping out at the sledding hill. Thanks to Mr. Lynch for bringing pizza and thanks to everyone who sent in drinks, plates, and supplies. The kids enjoyed their afternoon sledding and then exchanging cards and candy.
Language Arts
- Battle of the Books: On Thursday we kicked off Battle of the Books. The program was introduced and the books were shared with students. Each student should be coming home with an assigned book or two to read for Battle of the Books. The challenge will run from now until April 5th. Students are required to read a minimum of three books. Please look for the purple letter in the Friday folder. Or link to it here: http://ow.ly/yuWR3092D2x
- Reading: This week students continued working with nonfiction texts. We learned about main idea and supporting details.
- Writing: Students put the final touches on their persuasive essay in the Book Creator app. I hope to have them uploaded to ibooks in the next week or two.
- Grammar: We reviewed irregular verbs.
Math
This week students continued to work with factors and divisibility. They also learned about multiples and common multiples. We then applied these skills to some real world problem solving. Students who have signed up for Khan Academy are making good progress working on skills that meet their individual skill level.
Science
This week, students explored how energy is transferred by colliding objects. They read and answered questions about how energy is transferred when one object is still, or both are moving, and how weight and speed change the outcome of energy transfer. Students also worked in groups to create a zip line. They used zip straws to experiment and answer questions they had about energy in collisions.
