February 2, 2018
We have two big week-long events. First, it is National School Counselors Week! Many thanks to our School Counselors, Rick Masters, Brandy Ludlam, and Susan Goff, for all that they do for our students and staff!! This counselor team ROCKS!!
Our second week-long event is our Book Fair. This is an exciting time!!! We love books!! Our goal is to build lifelong lovers of reading!!! The Book Fair will be open in the Learning Commons each day with Grits for Grands on Tuesday (last names beginning with A-H), Wednesday (I-P), and Thursday (Q-Z). We will host Family Night at the Book Fair on Thursday evening, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!
Our fifth graders will also have their Family Night on Thursday, February 8. I know that they have a huge amount of learning and planning invested in this wonderful evening! I look forward to seeing them shine!
Please enjoy the weekend, a great book, and outside fun with your child!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary
Pajama Day Monday!
Your student council is proud to announce that we will be having a Pajama Day for the entire school next Monday February 5th! Student Council took this proposal to Mrs. Fickling and she has been kind enough to give us this treat for all of our hard work in class and on our state assessments as shown on our school report card. Way to go, Mustangs, for doing your personal best and showing off your learning!!
Please remember to wear your school appropriate, winter pajamas on Monday for our Pajama Day!

French Immersion Crêpe Day
The French Immersion Committee celebrated La fête de la Chandeleur today. Immersion students had the opportunity to try a traditional French crêpe. Why crêpes? In short, it was a good way to use up the extra wheat ahead of the new harvest. And symbolically, crêpes look like a sun, so it is a reason to rejoice as the days started to get longer.
And, of course, there is the traditional coin ritual: if you can flip a crêpe while holding a coin in your other hand, you and your family will not have to worry about financial problems.
