Parkside Elementary Fourth Grade
February 15th - 19th, 2016
Literacy/Reading
We are having a quick check (quiz) on Monday, February 15, 2016 on author's purpose and using the R.A.C.E. strategy to write a constructed response. On Friday, February 19, 2016 the entire grade level will be having a Mock Literacy EOG test from 10:00-12:35pm. Be sure students get plenty of rest and eat a decent breakfast. Remind them to use testing and reading strategies they have learned.
The test will cover the informational text standards we have been working on for the last few months- Describe the overall structure of a text (RI 4.5), Explain how an author uses reason and evidence to support particular points in a text (RI 4.8) and Interpret information presented orally or quantitatively and explain how it contributes to understanding the text it accompanies (RI 4.7).
Math
Science, Social Studies and Health
In Science we are starting our Electricity Unit. Students will be able to use batteries, wires and bulbs to make series and parallel circuits. We will also be learning the vocabulary which includes closed circuit, open circuit and short circuit. Students will be writing in their notebooks to prepare for a later assessment.
We just finished the Civil War and learning about Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Tubman. I have been reading about the Underground Railroad and showing the different perspectives, Your child has learned so much about how North Carolina was involved in the North versus the South War. (Ask them about a "pup tent".
