RISD Elementary Parent Newsletter
Week of 2/4/19
Message from Julie
Dear RISD Elementary Parents,
I hope everyone enjoyed their snowy and chilly week! It is great that we have finally gotten through January (which felt like a VERY long month). We have two weeks to go until February vacation - and we are excited about our first all elementary Winter Carnival on Friday, 2/15. We have been watching the weather and are thrilled that this Thursday looks like a perfect day for our Winter Program. It was very disappointing that we had to cancel for the wind/ cold on this past Thursday. We are so appreciative to Tami and Adam Sullivan and Rivendell Rec for their flexibility in providing 2 weeks of refunds to our skiing families.
Our January assessments have come to a close, and we are THRILLED with the growth in both elementary schools. Teachers should really be commended for their incredible methods of teaching and learning, allowing for our students to make such progress in the first half of our school year.
Good luck to all our students athletes as they participate in the Rivendell Rip Up this weekend! And a GIANT thank you to the RRA for organizing such fantastic opportunities for our students!
Don't forget to fill out the survey for our snow day issue:

Right now we stand at 6 snow days with 2 months of winter left to go (though Punxsutawney Phil did predict an early spring - if you believe in Groundhog predictions!). Dr. Arbour's survey will give us choice and voice with the way that we make up all these days. Thanks for your help with this!
A couple of important announcements:
Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for Jeff Wooster
Recently, Jeff (the father of one of our students) received a new heart! While everything has gone well so far, we want to come together as a community to support Jeff and his family. The community will be holding a fundraiser to raise money to help offset any costs that they have incurred during this time.
Come eat spaghetti, listen to live music and win something great at the silent auction!
When: Saturday, February 9th at 5pm.
Where: Westshire Elementary School, RTE 113 West Fairlee.
Questions: email Jen at :jlshatney@gmail.com or jlshatney@gmail.com
Hope to see you there!
