Go Purple Week at Petersham Center School

This year’s theme was “Go Purple - Proud to be Me” and focused on being proud of who you are and encourage good decision making. Go Purple is an initiative of The Herren Project, a non-profit foundation established by former NBA basketball player, Chris Herren, that empowers youth to stand up, make good decisions, be proud of who they are and make a difference. We at PCS would like to thank Chief Cooley and the Petersham Police Department, Q-Drug, District Attorney Earley and his assistant Ellen Miller, and the family of Joe’s Journey for making this week such a success. All helped to educate our children on safety, the power of making good decisions.

We would especially like to thank our very own nurse, Mrs. Warburton, for creating these special experiences for our children!

February Break

This year's February Break runs from Monday, February 18th - Friday, February 22nd. Enjoy this time with your family!

Note from the Nurse

You can now find and print all health forms needed for your child on the PCS website. Forms include: the yearly physical form, prescription medication form, health form and standing order form. Our school medication and illness policies can also be found under this tab, along with Massachusetts immunization requirements. Having access to these forms will allow parents to print the forms out and mail/fax them to their physician or bring them to physician appointments where they can be filled out at the time of the visit. These forms are accessible by clicking the Parent tab and then the Health Services tab.

Please feel free to call the Health Office with any questions.

If your child is absent/tardy or being dismissed

Please remember to call the school no later than 8:30 a.m. if your child will be absent or tardy; as all children must be accounted for.

If your child is being dismissed, for any reason, please inform the school no later 8:30 a.m. so the teacher can have your child ready for pick-up.

If your child will be a pick-up, please send in a note in the morning or call no later than 1:45 p.m. This will alleviate any angst or confusion for your child.

Design a Sled project

Third and fourth grade students designed, built, and tested out the sleds that they created in an interdisciplinary project. Mrs. Smith and Miss Keenan created this experience for our students created when working at WPI with Science specialists from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Container Request from Mrs. Thompson

Hi families! It's Mrs. Thompson looking for containers to re-purpose in the classroom. This year I am looking for donations of empty French's crispy onions containers. They are oval in shape and made of plastic now. Since green bean casserole is popular this time of year, it's a good time to ask folks to save them. They are the perfect size for our math game cards and super durable. I need about 20 of them, however if I get more, that's ok. I'll save them for when the original sets break. Everyone came through last year with frosting containers. Thank you very much! Just send any donations in with students and I'll collect them in our Kindergarten classroom. Thank you again!! ~Mrs. Thompson

Flurry Folder School Committee approval

On September 11th, the first PCS School Committee was held. The Committee voted to approve up to seven Flurry Folders for 2018-2019. (Note that this is the same amount as Orange and Mahar.) These days are at the discretion of the Superintendent.

Breakfast & Snack Options

Mrs. Wallace makes sure that our students have a healthy and full breakfast (see example of offerings below).

She also provided snacks which range in price $0.25 - $0.50. All are FDA approved.
