Willow Springs Orchestra Newsletter

April 13, 2017

We are so incredibly proud of all the students who competed at UIL Concert and Sight reading contest this past week. They performed so musically on stage, and the judges noticed! They both received a sweepstakes award, which is the highest honor an orchestra can achieve.

Our Solo Festival is ONE week from today! Students will be receiving their scheduled time tomorrow! Reminder--they must be here at least 20 minutes before their scheduled time, and as soon as they are done performing, they are finished! We will pass out comment sheets and awards at school later in the week.

Our next concert is quickly approaching on May 1st. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at LHS. We are looking forward to performing some fun pop music for you that evening!

Orchestra Solo Festival!

Orchestra Solo Festival

This is a great way to get feedback about your playing from orchestra directors in our area! This solo festival is open to all 6th – 8th graders. You will perform for a judge and receive a rating and comments. Medals and ribbons will be awarded based on ratings.

When: Monday, April 17, 2017

Time: 5:00 – 8:00 pm

Where: Willow Springs Fine Arts Area

If you are interested in participating in the Solo Festival, you will need the following things:

· A Solo – The original copy of the music is required so that you can have something for the judge to follow along.

(If a director provides you with solo, we will have the original, otherwise, please consult your private teacher for a copy.)

· An Accompanist – Your private teacher or parent will need to help you arrange this.

Beginner Students will perform with a CD accompaniment, unless you have received a solo from a private lesson teacher.

· A completed entry form

Once we have received everyone’s entry form, we will create a schedule so that you know when you will be performing.

Private Lessons

Private Lessons are highly encouraged for every student in orchestra. Private lessons are a one on one lesson with a professional musician.

We have a few teachers who come to LHS and teach privately during class. The lessons are $20 per half class lesson.

Their availability is limited so if you are interested please contact them ASAP.

Here are the teachers and their info.

Larry Latanzi - Violin and Viola
