Miss Culver's First Grade News

September 25, 2015

Math: This week we started Topic 3: Five and Ten Relationships. We worked on building ten with ten frames and identifying different combinations of two parts that make ten.

Reader's Workshop: This week we worked on retelling. We used five fingers to tell what happened "first", "next", "then", "after that" and "last". Try having your student do this at home when they finish reading a book.

Writer's Workshop: This week was all about revising! We are coming to the end of Unit 1: Narrative Writing (Small Moments) and are getting ready for publishing. This week we looked for mistakes that we could fix in our writing.

Science/Social Studies: This week we continued to talk about the scientific method. We did an experiment to answer the question "What happens if you put a marshmallow in the microwave?". Ask your student about our results!

This week was our FIRST Leadership Luncheon at Line Creek for the 2015-2016 school year. Our class talked about what it meant to be proactive and Harper was selected by her classmates for this honor! Way to go, Harper! :)

I could not be more excited that our classroom Donors Choose project was funded in just 9 short days! Thank you SO very much for your support of these wonderful 20 students and their reading. We have 6 new pairs of headphones and we are ready to start listening to books once our iPod nanos arrive!

-Thurs Oct 8: PICTURE RETAKES (also Line Creek Spirit Day, wear your shirt if you aren't doing retakes!)

-Thurs Oct 8: EARLY RELEASE DAY - school dismissal at 1:30 PM.
