Update Regarding Year-End Activities
Dear TVUSD Students, Families, and Staff,
We hope that you are staying healthy and managing to maintain your sanity as we all learn to navigate our hopefully temporary, new normal. As a District, we continue to monitor and work closely with city, county, state, and federal agencies regarding guidance on timelines for school operations. It appears from information released this week that there are varying messages circulating. This makes it difficult for us to effectively determine some definitive responses regarding our districtwide end of year activities, such as graduations and promotions.
These are extremely important activities and events for students, districtwide, and we do not want to rush to make decisions when there seems to be some fluidity with the current situation. We believe that the next two weeks will bring about some aligned structure from our guiding agencies that will allow us to make decisions about these important activities. We need to continue to ask for your patience and understanding. We have set a date of May 1, 2020, to make decisions about TVUSD’s districtwide graduation and promotion activities and we will communicate those decisions shortly thereafter.
In the meantime, we are providing a few informational items to assist you. Please know that we are committed to keeping you informed and involved. We are truly appreciative of the incredible support being provided. The care, compassion, human kindness, flexibility, genuine resiliency and grit that we are experiencing as a school community is heartwarming and the impact is overwhelmingly positive.
Thank you for all that you are doing.
Prom and Grad Night
As we shared in last week’s communication, previously scheduled prom and grad nights have been canceled. Unfortunately, we know we cannot proceed with these events as scheduled under the current Riverside County Public Health orders. The schools are working to deliver refunds for these specific items.
Caps and Gowns, Yard Signs, and Yearbooks
While no decisions have been made regarding TVUSD's graduations and promotions, we know that students and families want to be able to look ahead and plan for the retrieval of important, milestone and celebratory items. As we are still under Riverside County Public Health orders, the school sites are working to develop a system to create drive-thru pick-up processes (similar to the device and meal distribution). The schools will be communicating with students and families the site-specific plans over the next few weeks. Currently, the high schools plan on two different pick-ups. The first pick-up will be for senior yard signs and cap and gowns in early May. The second pick-up will be for yearbooks in late May. We anticipate the PreK-8th grade sites will follow similar plans for the items they typically distribute, however, we are still working through delivery dates and logistical planning, so they could vary slightly.
Retrieval of Items From Campus - Students
As we also shared in last week’s communication, we are continuing to try and limit our staff from being on campuses during the next few weeks. The sites are still developing plans for students to retrieve items left on campus. They will communicate directly as soon as they have plans in place.
Online Communication Connection for School Sites
Beginning Monday, April 20, 2020, every school site will have a dedicated webpage with contact resources for site-specific questions and assistance. You will be able to call or text to a dedicated phone line as well as submit requests online. Requests will be responded to by school staff remotely within 1 business day.
Important Reminder About Contact with School Staff During Meal and Device Pick-up
Under the current Public Health Order of the Riverside County’s Health Officer, “all persons, including essential workers, shall wear face coverings, such as scarves (dense fabric, without holes), bandanas, neck gaiter, or other fabric face coverings.”
In order to protect the health of our staff and community members, all are asked to use an appropriate face covering and maintain social distancing when making personal contact with TVUSD staff. This includes picking up instructional material(s) and receiving meal service.
