Weekly Message
Dear Raleigh Hills Staff,
On Thursday morning, as I was leaving for work, the sky was beautiful! I had to take a moment to admire and photograph it. These wavelike clouds were backlit by the sun in an extraordinary display. That made me realize, hey! it's light out! A rarity for the trek to the car in the AM. And that can only mean one thing. Spring is on the way. It's easy to get caught up in the daily, grey and rainy march toward spring break, but it was lovely to have this seconds worth of gratitude for a ray of morning sunshine. It reminded me of our bright spots activity in December and gave me one to hold onto for Thursday. I hope you will find some bright spots this week!
I'm including the link to the Community Newsletter here because we were able to capture the dance assembly on video. All the links are there if you'd like to relive the magic. Thanks to Denise for the video and to Glen, Jody, Aprill, and Holly for organizing, teaching and presenting this wonderful community event!

And finally, Go Chiefs!

A Message from Jim
Dear Raleigh Hills Staff:
Thank you all so much for the warm welcome you've given me. I am happy to be a part of such a great group, and I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you better over the coming weeks. Schools are wonderful places, and I can already tell that Raleigh Hills is a great learning community, one where you put kids first and believe that all students can learn. I want to support your work and strive to maintain a positive, safe, and caring environment. Feel free to talk to me or invite me into your classroom most anytime. Again, thank you for the warm welcome.

Extreme Safety Hazard – TikTok Challenge
A recent social media challenge presents both an electrical shock hazard and fire danger. Students are inserting a phone/USB charger into outlets ¾ of the way and dropping a coin in behind to create an intentional electrical short. Besides potential shock, burn, or spark causing skin/eye damage, this can create a fire inside the electrical chase.
Damage caused by this kind of an incident is a crime and students can be criminally charged and the court may require restitution for property damage.
Please forward to all staff in your building and ask them to pay close attention if a student(s) are near electrical outlets when there is no purpose for it.

Fire Drill
- Our drills are usually under 2 minutes, this one was 3. I think that is pretty good for an unannounced drill and our goal remains to be around 90 seconds.
- We forgot to announce over the PA that it was a drill. That was my oversight. New learning for me too!
We are practicing evacuation for fire, but also for earthquake. We would ONLY use evacuation for earthquake if we had advance warning. If the alert for an earthquake was that earth started shaking, we would use drop, cover and hold on. Please instruct students that the safest cover is a sturdy table or desk. When I observed a random drill with a rep from district office, some were attempting to use chairs or stools. This would provide some cover, but best to be under a sturdier piece of furniture. Thanks for all you do to help keep students safe!
Executive Functioning
Executive Functioning (EF) are a set of mental processes that help us with planning, managing time, and paying attention. This is a good introduction to understand what it is, how it affects learning, and some strategies to consider.
