Dolphin News You Can Use
Volume 11: March 1st, 2023
Principal's Message
Hello Dolphin Families!
Congratulations to our students that participated in Science Olympiad on Saturday! We could not be more proud of your hard work and dedication over the past several weeks. Thank you to our Science Olympiad sponsors, Pam Heikkila, Audrey Kimpler, and Lisa Morrey, as well as our teachers that served as event coaches and judges!
We want to send a special shout out to Allison Jenkins, who was selected as our 22-23 Volunteer of the Year. Allison and her husband Luke spent countless hours planning and mapping out a brand new “Haunted Science Lab” to be featured at Trunk or Treat along with bringing life back into the event’s decorations, games, and prizes. Our school wouldn't be the amazing place it is without all of our wonderful volunteers.
This week, we celebrate Read Across America Week. Please see the flyer below from Mrs. Bromonsky with more details.
The LCISD School board approved school start times for the 23-24 school year. Dickinson Elementary is in TIER B, which means our time will be 7:45am-3:15pm. Below, you will find a video where Dr. Nivens, our superintendent, explains the changes to school start times for our district. The board will be voting on the calendar at the next board meeting.
I hope all of you have an amazing spring break as families. I can't wait to hear all about it from your children when we return.
Kindly,
Channon Almendarez

SMART TAG REMINDER- Message from LCISD Transportation
Dear Lamar CISD Parents,
We are requesting every student bus rider be prepared to show their Smart Tag identification badge when they board and exit transportation starting on Monday, November 28, 2022, the first day we return from the Thanksgiving Break.
The Smart Tag ID badge is a safety tool for students, parents, and drivers. The photo immediately identifies the student, and the vertical or horizontal orientation indicates secondary or elementary grade levels. The badge allows parents to check the exact times when a student boards and exits the bus. Additionally, the Parent Portal gives users the ability to see where the bus is in live time.
The Elementary and Secondary Student Handbooks do require students to have their Smart Tag ID badge when they board and exit the bus (see p. 64 for Elementary; see p. 51 for Secondary). Based on the student’s grade level, there may be consequences for a student who does not show their Smart Tag for 5 consecutive days (5 days for Secondary). We encourage parents to visit our district website for more information on Smart Tags in the student handbook (https://www.lcisd.org/departments/).
For the safety of our students and staff, we want all bus riders to follow this rule and may enforce a “No Tag, No Ride” rule in the future. If your student has not received their ID badge, please contact your campus directly. We appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to working together in making sure all students arrive to school and get home safely every day.

Books are shipped from the company approximately once per month. Once the book arrives, your child's picture will be taken and they will be the first person to checkout the new book. Thank you for supporting our library!
Typing Club on Class Link
Our Digital Learning Team will be sponsoring two TypingClub incentives for the remainder of September thru October. The “Login Lollies” incentive will be for kindergarten thru 1st grades and the “Cool Club” incentive will be for 2nd thru 5th grades. Read more about these incentives:
- Login Lollies (K-1st grade) – The Digital Learning Team will be awarding lollipops to Kinder and 1st grade classrooms where 100% of students can log into a district device without assistance. Teachers can fill out this form Login Lollies 22-23 when 100% of their students can login successfully with their district credentials. A member of the Digital Learning team will deliver the lollipops to the classroom.
- “Cool Club” (2nd – 5th grade) – The Digital Learning Team will be awarding freezer pops to the top class at each grade level, 2nd – 5th, at every elementary campus with the highest performance (total time in program, accuracy, words per minute). These reports will be run at the end of October and freezer pops will be delivered to the winning classrooms.
Help support our Dickinson teachers by accessing typing club from home using the class link button on the lcisd website. This will also help our students get recognized and hopefully earn a treat. Please ask your child's teacher if you need help with a username or password.
Let's start typing! :)
