December 2017 Updates
Senior College Update!
The School Counseling department is proud to announce that 70% of our seniors have applied to a College or University. Many students have already been accepted into one or more Colleges/Universities. Seniors are encouraged to bring in their letters of acceptance as they receive them. After applications have been sent out, seniors should start working on their scholarship applications. The scholarship list can be accessed from home using the student’s Naviance account (Colleges tab, scholarship list). Students must be aware of the School Counseling Department deadlines in order to insure that documents are sent out in a timely fashion. Students must also fill out the Scholarship Document Request Form in order to have their scholarship application and supplemental materials sent to the scholarship committees. This is a gold colored form located in the School Counseling Department.

SECOND ANNUAL ALUMNI PANEL
On Wednesday November 22nd we had seventeen alumni from the Class of 2017 participate in a panel discussion for our seniors. The alumni shared about their first-year freshmen experiences as well as gave advice to current seniors. Students had the opportunity to ask our alumni questions and hear about sharing a dorm room, the academic demands of college, and college campus life. It was a positive experience for all who attended, and we were very grateful to have the alumni come back to participate in this panel opportunity!

Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance Visits WHS
Members of the Wolcott Volunteer ambulance visited Wolcott High School on November 17th. Students in Ms. Lofgren’s classes were able to view the ambulance emergency vehicles. Justin Fortin, Cara Valenti and Samantha Chasse from the Wolcott Ambulance explained the ambulance company and the Wolcott Ambulance Explorer program to students and answered questions.
Why join Wolcott Ambulance Explorers?
Do you need community service hours? Do you like helping people? Are you interested in Emergency responding? The Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance Explorer Post is looking for new recruits between the ages of 14-21 to join our team of students.
As an explorer, you will learn about emergency medicine and operations, help raise money for different charitable organizations, provide medical standbys for events held in town and the surrounding area, and work with medical professionals on real 911 calls.
Our explorers meet once a month for in-class, hands-on training and also participate in other events throughout the year. After volunteering as an explorer, we will pay for you to go through an EMR and then EMT course which gives you access to join our general membership. If you have a goal of working in any medical profession, service hours such as the ones you receive with the explorer post will help you tremendously. Also, you can earn your required community service hours for high school.
If you would like more information about how to join please see Ms. Cyr in the career service center or contact Wolcott Ambulance at 203-879-4122 EXT. 120.
