A special thank you, huge shout out, and our deepest gratitude to several individual staff for so generously donating their time and talent above and beyond to make the BCS March Madness events not only possible but truly exceptional! Major kudos to Christina B. for her exemplary event planning and hosting both school parties, to Thomas and Jannie who were the proverbial right-hand logistics and planning support dynamic duo, making numerous pickups late unto the evening and early in the morning, to Christina, Thomas and Jannie who were the backbone for this inaugural event--giving their hearts, endless time, and talent, to Mercedes who prepared and cooked nearly 400 empanadas, and to Isabel and Jill who supported Christina in carrying out her artistic vision.

Our deepest appreciation to YWCA After School Director Janet and Assistant Direct Obie for extending their organizational and financial support as collaborators for March Madness 2019. They were involved at the beginning of March Madness 2019---giving shape to this community event!

STAFF VS STUDENT BASKETBALL GAME & PEP RALLY!

Staff "Schooled" Students! Staff Win 58-39!

Energized by the Pep Rally and packed bleachers, staff went on to "school" students on the basketball court, leading to a double-digit victory in an enthusiastic, joyful, fun, and collaborative pickup game!

The staff vs student basketball game experience was best summed up by a staff member who wrote, "in all my years at BCS, the Pep-Rally/Game after-school was one of the most joyful, fun, collaborative, raucous events I've experienced. Very impressive efforts by every adult and student who participated - from the Pep Rally that opened to the game that followed."

A huge shout out and major round of applause to staff players (Scill, Imani, Jose, Taron, Nikkie

Adam, Allen, Allison, Dierre, Freddie, John, Josh, Nancy, Obie, Phill G., & Phil S.) and to all of our middle and high school players.

Thank you to staff, students, alumni, and families who showed up, filled the bleachers, supportively cheered on the players, posted on instagram, and streamed the game.

Kudos to the Pep Rally Squad - Chrissy (who also suited up) and the BCS Cheerleaders as well as Obie and the "Eliminators" who generated a thunderous

Special shout and deepest gratitude to the Student Council, Jose and Nikkie for organizing, publicizing in crews and over the PA system, and encouraging staff and student participation!

HIGH SCHOOL "REP YOUR FLAG" DANCE PARTY

The High School "Rep Your Flag" Dance Party was an event whose "time had come" according to many seniors! Juniors and seniors, in particular, said that they have been waiting for a school dance. This dance party was soooo much better than they expected and left them wanting another dance this year!

Nearly 200 high school students filled the cafeteria where flags from around the world and flags representing peace, the LGBTQ community, and Black Lives Matter proudly hung from the ceiling and loosely encircled its perimeter and columns. The live DJ spun a nonstop stream of contemporary and Old School hip hop, salsa, soca, afrobeats, reggaeton, trap, reggae, and R&B--leaving students breaking out in a sweat as the music pulsed throughout the Caf!

Thank you to all of the upper grade teachers who enthusiastically encouraged students to attend, allowed Student Council members to make announcements and sell tickets, and purchased tickets to donate to students.

A special shout out to host Christina T. and Thomas, Jannie, Janet, Obie, Adam, Kia, Freddie, Asha, Taron, Julie, Mercedes, Isabel, Maria, Sheryl, Allison, Brittany, Abbey, Angela, Chrissy, who supported as chaperones and/or were part of the set up, and/or cleaned up crew. Also, our appreciation to Tamika who contributed a catered dish that left students raving.

Major kudos to the Student Council for publicizing in crews and over the PA system, tirelessly selling tickets, and for enthusiastically encouraging students to attend the dance!
