Family Services Initiative (FSI)
211 Tampa Bay Cares is the front door for a collaborative project called the Family Services Initiative (FSI). This project helps families with minor children prevent child protection investigations, homelessness, and further social service engagement by providing families with the right service, at the right time, for the right need. The initiative provides support and wraparound services to meet families’ basic needs and help empower them to become self-sufficient.
This collaborative is a partnership between four core partners: The Juvenile Welfare Board Children’s Service Council of Pinellas County (JWB), 2-1-1 Tampa Bay Cares (211), Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services (GCJFS) and Personal Enrichment through Mental Health Services (PEMHS). For more information about FSI, please visit the JWB website.
To contact FSI call 211 Monday through Friday from 7 am - 6 pm

Rotary Student of the Month
Notes from Our School Nurse
Frequently asked questions: Answered!
Q: My student has a runny nose. Should I keep him home?
A: Maybe. Is it ONLY a runny nose? If it is ONLY a runny nose with or without sneezing, your child MAY attend class. However, if the student is experiencing ANY other symptoms, such as congestion, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, sore throat, or fever then you must keep your child home. (Keeping extra masks in your child’s backpack is a great idea-especially for sneezing mishaps!)
Q: Do I need a Dr. note for my child to return to school
A: If your child is only out for one day and is feeling better and symptom free the next day, no, you do not need a Dr. note to return. However, if your child is experiencing any of the symptoms above it is advisable to consult your physician. If your child is absent for more than 3 days with any of the above symptoms the school may request a Dr. note or neg covid test in order for them to return.
Q: Do I need to report my child’s absence?
A: Yes! You should always report your child’s absence via the link on the Cypress Woods Webpage. Please include your child’s first and last name, teacher and why they are absent. It is also helpful to let us know if you plan to take your child to the Dr.
Q: My student was tested for Covid 19, the Rapid test came back negative, but the PCR test didn’t come back yet, can my student come to school?
A: No. NO students can come to school if there is a pending test in the household. If ANY individual living in the household is awaiting test results, NO STUDENTS in the household may attend in-person class until a negative result is returned. Please forward Negative results to the school nurse! (reznickj@pcsb.org)
Q: My student wasn’t feeling well so I kept him home today, can he attend class online?
A: No. Online instruction is for students who have been directed to quarantine.
Q: My child was sent home sick from school. What do I do?
A: Typically, if your child is sent home from school sick you will be given instructions when you pick them up. Most of the time the child will be sent home under our districts Covid 19 Policy. Your options in this instance would be a 10-day quarantine, in which your child may attend online instruction from home OR, receive a negative Covid 19 test OR get a Doctor note with an ALTERNATIVE diagnosis.
Q: Someone in the household tested positive for Covid, or my student had an exposure. When can my student return to school?
A: Your student will be entered into our Covid 19 database and a member of the districts Covid 19 team will reach out to you. They will interview you about your specific case and together with the Department of Health will determine when your child can return to in-person learning. In the meantime, your child may attend class online.
Q: My child was exposed to someone who is positive with Covid yesterday, and they have been directed to quarantine. If I get them tested can they return to school sooner?
A: No. You cannot test out of quarantine. This is because it can take up to 10-14 days after exposure for enough viral load to have built up in your system to become detectable.
Q: My child was directed to quarantine. Does that only apply to school? Can he still go to ballet and my sisters wedding?
A: No. Per CDC guidelines, if a quarantine is ordered, that person should not go out at all until the end of their quarantine duration. Covid 19 can be transmissible for up to 48 hours PRIOR to symptom onset, which means you could be making others sick even if you are feeling fine.
Still have questions? You can reach me any time in the clinic! ~Nurse Jen
Notes From Kim Shipley, Family & Community Liaison
Greetings Volunteers!
I hope everyone is off to a good start in the new year, staying safe and healthy. It’s been nearly a year since the world shut down and as I reflect on the time since, I am so very thankful for the continued support we have received from our dedicated volunteers. You have continued to mentor students virtually on Zoom, taken projects home for our teachers and staff, been innovative and creative forming new ways to engage our families while participating in PTA and SAC, and also by encouraging your student from home and supporting the new normal in school requirements for PPE. Please accept our deepest gratitude for hanging in there with us…fingers crossed that next school year we’ll be able to see your smiling faces back on campus (maybe through your mask though LOL) There’s about 15 weeks of this school year left, so let’s keep it up and finish strong!
Please remember to enter all your volunteer hours into the volunteer system using the attached instructions. Every hour counts and is reported to Tallahassee twice a year to show our schools community involvement.
