School Update
Dear Students & Families,
Picture Day went well and we are grateful to all the parents who helped to make this run smoothly. We also had the Department of Public Works present to the upper grades on Recycling.
This week, there will be a presentation on Water and an upcoming poster competition relating to the importance of water. King is recognizing STEAM week, 10/21 - 10/25. Our STEAM coach has varying STEAM activities this week for all grades. There is also a special sand art and music collaboration on Friday. This is only for the students.
Upcoming is our Food Drive. Information will be sent home on Friday and we will kick-off this event on Monday, 10/28. Thank you, thank you to the families who donated boxes for this!
I look forward to great and safe week!

From the Media Specialist
Students in grades 2-5 have begun typing practice in Library/Media class. If your child would like to practice at home, they can use the TYPE TO LEARN link from the King Library Page (which includes the FPS account code) and use their username and password set up in class. As a reminder, the username and password for Type to Learn are the same as what they use for iReady testing (UN initials+6-digit student number, and PW "1234"). Please email me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Maggie Sullivan
Library Media Specialist
School Council
Our first School Council Meeting is scheduled for the last week of October. Parents have volunteered to serve on the 2019-2020 School Council and their names will be presented to PTO for a vote.
We are still identifying one community member. In addition, we are creating the schedule for meetings and will publish that next week, too.
Please reference the link below for an overview of the purpose of School Councils in Massachusetts. In general, the purpose is to develop and monitor the implementation of the King School Improvement Plan
Make Attendance a Priority
As a partner in your child’s education, you can help by working with us to make school attendance a priority.
Here are several tips to help your child attend school every day:
Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session;
Talk to teachers, social workers, or counselors for advice if your child(ren) feel anxious about going to school;
Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your student to school; and
Above all, let us know how we can help with any barriers you may be facing to get your child to school every day.
OTHER
Cell Phone & Electronic Devices Policy
We have been encountering issues relating to electronic device usage during the school day by students. Please, do not call or have a student class you during the school day on his/her phone. If the matter is important, call the main office and we can contact the student. Note: The school will not assume responsibility for lost or stolen items under any circumstances.
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
These items are not allowed to be used during the school day. If parents provide their child with a cellphone it must be turned off and kept in their backpack. If a student has their cell phone/electronic device out during the school day, the staff member will confiscate the item, notify parents and return it to the student at the end of the day. If there are repeat offenses, items will be confiscated and parents will be contacted and asked to come to the school and meet and pick up the phone/device.
