The Hasty Howler
October - Parent Engagement Newsletter
From the Principal - Dr. Rosario-Regan
It has been an exciting and busy start to the 2021-2022 school year. It has been wonderful reconnecting as a school community with our students and you, their parents. I would also like to welcome our many new families into this amazing and supportive community. Hasty Elementary is a truly special place. Our newsletter will come out monthly to keep you up to date with current events, fun happenings at school and parent resources. The monthly newsletters will also be posted on our school website.
We are committed to continuing our strong parent and community partnerships with the school to ensure our students have an exciting, engaging, and world-class relevant education. I am a firm believer that schools and community are one unit, and partnerships with all sectors of the community are essential to helping children reach their maximum potential. In other words, all of us — teachers, staff parents, business, community partners— working together, truly makes a difference in the lives of our students. We would like to thank our community partners, The Rotary Club of Canton, for their continued support and for sponsoring the Hasty Journals again this school year for all our students and Revolution Church for donating funds to ensure all our students took home a book from the book fair. These partnerships make our school stronger and enable our students to expand their horizons.
On school attendance, research shows that students are more successful in school when they have regular attendance. Our goal is for every student to have 95% or better attendance. That translates to less than 8 absences in a year or 2 absences a quarter. There is a growing body of evidence that connects 95% attendance in elementary school with successful high school graduation. Please make every effort to have your scholar in attendance.
Lastly, there is no more important activity for preparing your child to succeed as a reader than reading aloud together. Although the life of a parent is often hectic, try to read with your child at least once a day at a regularly scheduled time. Don't be discouraged if you skip a day or don't always keep to your schedule. Just read to your child as often as you possibly can. Reading is an imaginative activity that opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for your child. By widening your child’s imagination, your child is more likely to dream bigger and act creatively which can benefit school and their future.
This school year we are going to be on top of the world—helping your child grow as an individual and as a vital contributor to our shared community. We are excited to get back to work with you and your scholar! Thank you for being a partner in your child’s education.
Thank you,
Dr. Regan

From Your Parent Engagement Facilitators - Mrs. Shipp & Mrs. Tatum
Dear Hasty Husky Families,
We are thrilled to be your new Parent Engagement Facilitators. Our role is to support you and the teachers in improving the academic achievement of your child. Let's team up and together we can accomplish great things this school year!
We are already off to a great start this year and grateful for your participation in our first Parent Academic Data (PAD) Night and Annual Title I Meeting! If you missed either of these presentations, they are still posted and available to view (please see links below). We hope you are enjoying the activities sent home and feel up to date on your student's progress so far this year.
If you are interested in other ways to practice new skills with your child, please consider checking out some resources from our Parent Resource Center. We are hopeful to have visitors back in the building soon for in-person checkouts, but until then we are happy to discuss resources over the phone or email and send them home with your child or leave them outside the office for pickup.
If you have any questions, please find our contact information at the bottom of this newsletter. We look forward to getting to know and supporting you throughout this school year!
Sincerely,
Luciana Shipp and Paige Tatum

Handle with Care
“If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, we would like to provide additional support at school. We understand that you are not always able to share details and that’s okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, please email your message, “Handle with care” to Mrs. Ferry or Mrs. Warren and we will alert your child’s teacher. Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let us know that your child may need extra time, patience, or help during the day.
