Educating ALL Students for Success!
5 Students Who Attended Title I Schools Earned Perfect Scores!
The Martin County School District is proud to announce that 122 students earned a perfect score on at least one Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) or End-of-Course (EOC) exam during the 2018-2019 school year.
Last spring, students in grades 3-10 took the English Language Arts (ELA) FSA, while students in grades 3-8 took the Math FSA. The Statewide Science Exam (SSA) was administered to students in grades 5 and 8, and students enrolled in Civics, U.S. History, Algebra I and Geometry participated in EOC exams for those subjects.
Data released in August by the Florida Department of Education indicated that 20 District-operated schools had at least one student earn a perfect score last school year. Hidden Oaks Middle School had the most, with 46 perfect scores. Palm City Elementary and Pinewood Elementary tied for the highest number of perfect scores at the elementary level with seven, while Jensen Beach High School topped the high school list with 12.
The following students earned perfect scores in more than one subject area:

MCSD Parent Notification System Now Includes Text Messaging
Spread the word, parents! The Martin County School District now offers text messaging as part of its parent notification system.
Schools will now be able to deliver text messages straight to parents’ mobile phones with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more!
All texts sent by the District or schools will come from one of the following short codes:
53291
23177
63079
82931
Standard text messaging rates from your mobile carrier will apply to any messages you receive. Please be sure to follow the ‘opt out’ prompt if you do not wish to receive text
messages from the Martin County School District or any District-operated schools.
If you have provided your cell phone number to your child's school, you're all set. You will begin receiving messages from the school(s) and District when messages are sent. These are one-way communications from schools and the District, so sending messages to the numbers listed above will not work. Once a message has been sent to your phone, you'll see instructions for opting out if you do not wish to receive additional text messages.

Just Ask!: Be Different, Be Brave, Be You By Justice Sonia Sotomayor & Illustrated by Rafael López
Feeling different, especially as a kid, can be tough. But in the same way that different types of plants and flowers make a garden more beautiful and enjoyable, different types of people make our world more vibrant and wonderful. In Just Ask!, United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor celebrates the different abilities kids (and people of all ages) have. Using her own experience as a child who was diagnosed with diabetes, Justice Sotomayor writes about children with all sorts of challenges--and looks at the special powers those kids have as well. As the kids work together to build a community garden, asking questions of each other along the way, this book encourages readers to do the same: When we come across someone who is different from us but we're not sure why, all we have to do is Just Ask.

Parents are Vital Partners in Education!
It's that time of year again! Parent-Teacher Elementary School Conferences will be held November 7 from 5 - 8 p.m. If you have not already done so, please follow the instructions distributed by your child's school to schedule your appointment. If your child's school uses the MCSD conferencing app to schedule conferences, you'll find the instructions below to be very helpful as you reserve time to speak with your child's teachers.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child's school with any additional questions. We're #ALLINMartin and happy to help!

Warfield Elementary Kindergarteners Celebrate Character Counts!
EFMC Plays Across MCSD!
Title I Kindergartners Participate in the EFMC Plays Across MCSD Project!
A total of 33 play kits were purchased and organized for the student play centers. The play kits are rotated weekly throughout the kindergarten classes.
A typical week of the EFMC Plays Across MCSD project center looks like:
On the first day of the school week the students are introduced to a new play center ‘theme.” During this time, the teacher and students talk about and gain background knowledge about the play “theme.” The teacher provides details and descriptions about how play should look in these centers. The teacher will also assign specific roles and discuss/show and model to the students how those roles work. For example; with the Flower Shop play kit, the teacher can assign roles such as a cashier, a florist, delivery person, floral designer and a customer.
The goal of the EFMC Plays Across MCSD is to provide purposeful play opportunities for the children. By promoting language rich opportunities and communication, the students will develop their literacy, vocabulary, math, cooperative social interaction skills, problem solving and collaboration skills.
