Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
December 9, 2018
Dear PES Families,
The children have been having a great time on the new White Buffalo Park. While the construction took longer than anticipated, the wait was certainly worth it! Thank you to the Pleasant Dale Park District for updating this space and providing our students with a new place to play.
- Did you know? Mrs. Sheridan's class writes to another second grade class in Mount Prospect. The teachers have done this for about 7 years. Students are intrigued to learn what a pen pal is. Students who might be reluctant writers are usually very excited to participate in this project. Cheers are often heard when they are told, "We're writing to pen pals today. They learn about letter-writing and how it is like a conversation. Students are excited to ask pen pals questions and find out answers that show what they have in common, book recommendations, subjects they are learning, etc. We exchange pictures and sometimes short videos later in the year. Letters are saved through the year and made into a pen pal book at the end of the year. Thank you to Mrs. Sheridan for creatively connecting students and finding unique ways to engage them in learning.
- PTO Fun Run was a huge success! Thank you to all the families who supported our PTO. Over $20,000 was raised. This money will be used to support students and programs at both the elementary and middle schools.
- MAP Testing for students in grades 1-4 begins this week. Please contact your child's teacher for specific testing days/times if necessary. Test results will be sent home in late January.
- Snow gear is required for students to play in the snow. This includes snow pants and boots, along with a coat, hat, and mittens. Students without boots and snow pants will be limited to areas of the blacktop and playground without snow. If you need assistance getting snow pants and/or snow boots for your child(ren) please contact me, or Mrs. Dassinger, Social Worker, for assistance. We will be happy to help you.
- Labels help identify a child's belongings when they end up in Lost and Found. Please make sure to label snow gear, shoes, hoodies, etc. We have a growing collection of water bottles, hats, gloves, hoodies, and much more. Please remind your child to check lost and found for their things.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
