Monday Morning Message
Week of December 10, 2018
2 Weeks to Go
The text in this space this week will be much shorter than last week:)
It came to my attention that the phrase, "3 sustained inquiry projects" caused a few heart palpitations last week. We did set a goal of striving towards some sustained inquiry work with our students this year. In addition to the SEL school wide project that we are all engaged in, many of you have immersed your students in sustained inquiry through your science kits. I have also met with smaller groups of students setting up "Stress Co." at the book fair, students creating sign up Forms for playing the piano during arrival, concerned student citizens looking into composting in our lunchroom and much more.
The idea of sustaining an inquiry project over time can look many ways. You might do work once a week over a few weeks, work each day for a few days, or revisit the work over the course of a longer period that could be months or the entire year.
Take a moment to identify the inquiry that your students have been working on thus far this year.
Have a great week!

Winter Party Food Guidance
Below is the excerpt from our ZCS Elementary Safe Snacks document located on our website under the "Handbook" tab.
My advice is to keep it simple. I know last year I heard many conversations centering around craft projects, some of which were service related. Also, I know many classrooms like to focus on games and activities.
If you are doing food, make sure you know what it is ahead of time. Then be sure that what is brought the day of the party is the same as what you vetted and follows the district policy.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
