January 2016
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Happy 2016! I hope that you had a restful and relaxing holiday break. As the holiday season draws to a close and the calendar turns to January, it’s nearly impossible not to hear people talking about their New Year’s resolutions. While I value the concept of New Year's resolutions and the idea of goal-setting, research shows that many of us abandon our resolutions very quickly after we make them. Earlier this year, our Primary-Elementary teachers started off our new school year with a One Word Challenge. Each member of our school team selected one word that epitomized what they were hoping to accomplish or they were trying to live during the 2015-2016 school year. Here is just a sampling of some of the words that were selected-
perseverance
advocate
joy
inspire
breathe
positive
smile
compassion
The sentiment of starting the year anew can sometimes be lost on children so the idea of selecting One Word helps to introduce the concept of resolutions and finding an area of focus. You can start by simply sharing your own word and why it is important to you and then brainstorming with your child a list of possible words that they want to live by in 2016. I wish you and your family love and laughter in the new year!
Sincerely,
Marcie Ware
PK-5 Principal

Hours are 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.and 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. . If you know of someone with a child of kindergarten age, we ask you to kindly share this information as well.
As we head into the second half of the school year, we wanted to take a moment to review our Visitation Policy. All visitors are required to sign in and state their destination. It is a violation of the Visitation Policy to go to a location other than the destination listed. Parents and visitors are encouraged and welcome in school, but our policy does not allow visitors to classrooms during the instructional day (8:50 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.) All visits to classrooms during these hours should be arranged in advance with the teacher. This policy allows us to maintain a consistent instructional day and helps to ensure the safety of students and staff. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
