A little bit of normal
Today after school we are excited to bring back a few more of our normal back-to-school activities. All are outdoors and masks are encouraged but not required.
At 4:30 P.M. today, Exec members are hosting a tailgate for students. We invite them to join us in the plaza area outside the front entrance, near the auditorium garage doors, for some grilling and fun. Students are then invited to come to the football game at 6 P.M. vs. Hermantown. Exec is asking that students wear their welcome back shirts and sit in the student section. See below for online ticket sales or purchase tickets at the gate. If you buy online, you can go straight to the gate entrance and skip the ticket booth line!
Immediately following the game we will clear the stadium area and begin checking students back in to the gated plaza area (near the stadium concessions) for our first dance in a really long time. Each fall we traditionally host a dance after our first home football game during the school year. This dance goes until 10:30 P.M. and students must leave campus by 10:40. On-site dances are for current East students only and principals will be here checking them in. Students should come ready with the $5 gate fee. Any inappropriate behavior will result in the removal of that student from the tailgate, game, and dance. Students removed from a school event or dance are not allowed to return to another one for the next 6 months.
School photos from JUMP START will be delivered to students in WIN on Monday. (Photos taken on the 13th have not arrived yet.)
Parents and Guardians, Set Up Your Observer Accounts in Canvas!
All grading will be housed in Canvas during the semester. Final grades will be posted to Infinite Campus, but you'll have to monitor Canvas to keep an eye on your student's progress.
Create a Canvas Observer Account
Parents and guardians can create an Observer account to track and support their student's progress.
You will need a Pairing Code in order to create an Observer account. This code is available in your student's Canvas account. When your student is signed in to Canvas, click Account and choose Settings. There will be a Pair with Observer button on the far right. Clicking this option will display your six-digit Pairing Code.
Your Pairing Code will be active for 7 days before it expires. Set up your Observer account soon so that your code is not expired when you are creating your Observer account.
This video tutorial will guide you through creating a Canvas Observer account using the steps described above.

Student and Family Help Desk
Duluth Public Schools families and students have access to Help Desk support:
- Help Desk Hotline 218-336-8732 or
- Start a Help Desk Ticket
The Help Desk is available to assist students and parents with questions related to district technical support issues, for example:
- District Chromebook support
- District hotspot support
- System login questions
- Filtering
- Limited personal devices and internet support
- Limited Digital Curriculum support
Remember to have a FULLY CHARGED district Chromebook in school every day!
All students in grades 6-12 will be issued a district Chromebook and should have it in their hands by the end of the first week!
There is no wireless access called BYOD this year. It was not secure enough for us to continue using. Students may not bring personal laptops, chromebooks, or tablets to school. They must use the district Chromebook.
If your student still hasn't received one, we recommend filling out the online form again. Follow that link in item 1 below.
JUNIORS will be able to go HOME for lunch again for the 21-22 school year
For this year ONLY due to COVID social distancing needs, Duluth Public Schools will be allowing 11th grade students to go HOME for lunch with parent/guardian permission.
A signed copy of this form must be submitted and approved, and the student must have their ID with the approval sticker on it, before they may leave for lunch. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Final day to drop a class without penalty (F on transcript) is Monday, September 20.
SENIORS ONLY: Late Start/Early Release and Open Campus Lunch Forms
We are allowed to have open campus for lunch as long as the parent/guardian and student agree to the following conditions. Failure to meet these conditions may result in the privilege of open campus being revoked for the student and possibly for the entire senior class. Students MUST have this completed form submitted by the parent/guardian in order to be allowed to leave campus.
You MUST have your student ID on its lanyard and in order to be allowed to leave at lunch. Those students with a completed form will receive a sticker for the back, making it easily identifiable by supervisory staff and principals at the door.
