Integrated Learning
Brrrr! It's cold outside! We will be learning about winter clothes, winter sports, penguins and snow. A few of the books we will read are The Jacket I Wear In the Snow, Tacky The Penguin and All You Need For A Snowman. Some of the centers include:
- Ice skating (using paper plates)
- Making ice skates
- Story Map of Tacky The Penguin
- Snowflake patterning
- Shaving cream snowman
Literacy
We will be learning the letters Uu and Rr. We will read the books Umbrellabird's Umbrella and Rosie Rabbit's Radish. The children will practice letter recognition and formation. A few activities are:
- Umbrella color code
- U maze
- Rainbow addition
- U and R Bingo
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will begin our study of different types of homes. We will start by taking a look at the homes we live in. We will read A House is a House for Me and Homes Around the World. Some of the centers will include:
- House pin punch
- Building houses with Legos, Lincoln Logs, and blocks
- Making houses out of brown paper bags
Science
In Science, we will begin our study of fabric. We will explore and discuss the origin of fabric as well as different types of fabric.
Spanish
This month in Spanish we will begin learning the names of basic shapes. Students will learn how to play the game "Shape Train." Ask your child how to say circle in Spanish!
P.E.
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break. In P.E. we will start playing a few scooter games. We will start talking about the muscles we use to make the scooters move. Ask your child what muscle we use while riding on our scooters.
