Two quick reminders for UHS students regarding your future:
- For current freshmen through juniors: if you haven't submitted your 2019-20 course requests to your counselor, be sure to submit those requests with a parent's signature this week.
- For current seniors, please read the announcement below from UHS Dollars for Scholars and fill out your online application for scholarship money. All are encouraged to apply!
"UHS Seniors: Complete Your Online Application By April 1st For Urbandale Dollars For Scholars Scholarships
Interested in scholarships but concerned about the time it takes to apply? The Urbandale Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Program makes it easier than ever. Urbandale High School students may create an online profile which enables students to apply for and be matched to multiple local and national scholarships. By creating an online profile, students will be able to see scholarships available to them and choose the scholarships they wish to apply for—parents can also view student progress on the application.
Be sure to develop your online profile on the Urbandale Dollars for Scholars website in order to be alerted about scholarship opportunities. Applications are due April 1 of every year."
Sincerely,
Tim Carver

UHS Wind Symphony performs piece by UHS junior, Peter Schumacher!
At Tuesday night's band concert, audience members were not only treated to the wonderful sounds they are used to hearing at UHS concerts, but also they had a chance to hear something wonderful and rare...a piece composed by one of our UHS students. During the Wind Symphony's section of the concert, Mr. Peterson shared that the first piece of music they performed, "Genesis," was composed by UHS junior, Peter Schumacher. The piece was terrific and a delight for all. Mr. Peterson and Peter are pictured here. Great work, Peter!
The performance is streamed here.
Then on Friday, the Wind Symphony had the opportunity to hear from a former UHS band member, Jillian Whitaker, who now lives in Los Angeles and works professionally as a music and sound composer for movies, TV shows, and commercials. She is pictured below with Mr. Peterson.

Mock Trial teams from UHS compete...one advances to State!
On Tuesday March 5, 2019, a total of four teams from Urbandale, consisting of nearly 40 Urbandale High School students, competed at the Regional Mock Trial Competition in Des Moines, Iowa. A total of 38 teams from the Des Moines metro area competed in this regional, which known for being a very difficult region to compete in. Two Urbandale teams (ACE and Invicta) competed exceptionally well in the first two rounds but were unfortunately eliminated after the first day. A third Urbandale team, Vytas, went 2-0 in the first two rounds and advanced to a sudden death playoff round on March 6, 2018, for a chance to go to the State competition. Vytas performed incredibly well, but lost a tight round to a team from Johnston.
A fourth Urbandale team, Veritas, also performed incredibly well and went 2-0 in their first two rounds at the regional competition. Due to their scoring, Veritas earned the number 1 seed in the Des Moines region and also earned one of three automatic bids to the State Mock Trial Competition on April 4 and 5, 2018. This automatic bid allowed them to bypass the sudden death playoff on March 6. Veritas is a team of 9 seniors and 1 sophmore. The seniors are Aleka Hickman, Varun Vepa, Audrey Krukow, Laura Parsons, Josie Tyler, Aditya Kotla, Anna Perdue, Lindsey Ingraham, and Jacob Sammon. The sophomore is Shay Kent.
