Thursday's Thoughts
December 17, 2015
My wish for you is that this holiday season is filled with happiness, health, and precious time with family. You have made the first half of our year wonderful, and I appreciate you more than you know. I hope tomorrow is not too crazy for you. Please leave as soon as you are free to do so tomorrow afternoon. Merry Christmas!
Our bill for the water in the cafeteria has slowly risen over the year due to the amount of water we are drinking. We are a thirsty bunch! The bill is so high that I almost had to have the dispenser removed because we cannot afford to pay for it. I have asked the company to drop the amount of water we receive each month so that we can afford to keep the water here. Please make sure students are not getting water out of the dispenser. The water is only for staff. When we run out each month, we will have to wait until the following month before getting more. Our last bill was over $200.
Please clean out all of your items from the refrigerator before leaving tomorrow. Anything left will be thrown away.
Please take the time to walk your students through the cafeteria tomorrow to check the coat rack for coats.
Faculty Meeting
We will have a faculty meeting January 12th at 3:10. This is an important meeting as we are going over some changes that will take place beginning in January with our Essentials and other important items relating to the remainder of the year. Please make sure you have made arrangements to be present at this meeting.
Preparing for Online Testing
In order to prepare our students to type their writing for SCReady, please plan to have your students type their writings when they go to the computer lab when they complete a writing assignment. Donna will be working on keyboarding as well. Having them type their writings from January-April will help them be prepared for testing when it is all online.
F & P Leveling
Please continue to level your students. I am thrilled to hear how so many students have grown so many levels since they were leveled in the fall. Some of our most struggling readers have grown tremendously due to added intervention and your work in guided reading. Teachers in grades 4-5, do not forget the purple LLI kit in the second computer lab. Please use those lessons! :-)
Student Mentors
At the last house council meeting, leaders in each house presented an idea to the group that they thought would benefit our school. The ideas were: house families, bullying, family game night, and student mentors. The council voted after the presentations by house leaders and voted for student mentors. With this idea, students in grades K-2 will be paired with a student from grades 3-5. Older students will be trained to be role models and help students in grades K-2 with various things. We will begin work on this in January. More information to follow!
