Welcome Back, MUSTANGS!
Parents,
As I continue my 4th year as Principal of Millsap Elementary, I want to take a moment to either welcome you back or welcome our newest families to our amazing school community. My staff and I have been hard at work preparing the learning environment for your child(ren). I want to thank you in advance for entrusting your child(ren) with us for this school year. It is a privilege to be able to watch them learn, overcome, and grow as students and as individuals.
I’d like to share with you that if you are returning to Millsap, you may notice some changes that we believe are improvements to your child’s school experience. As a staff, we believe it is our job to do the following:
Our goal is to give students the opportunity to grow intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Each student is a unique individual whose differences and commonalities will be respected and celebrated.
We look forward to partnering with you in this effort because we recognize that you are the extension of your child and you know them best.
I am excited to share with you that this year, Millsap has earned all available distinctions from our State Accountability System. This prestigious accomplishment was only awarded to 2 other elementary schools in our district. I know that by working together as a team, Mustangs are going to LEAD this year.

PTO News
We are so excited to start another year with our amazing teachers, staff, parents and of course, students! My name is Danielle, and I am honored to serve as Millsap’s PTO president.
Our PTO has lots of great ideas and enthusiasm! We can’t wait to share our ideas that will involve our Millsap community and help make our school a stronger place of community and education. Please join us for our first PTO meeting on Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00pm in the Millsap Library. All are welcome!
PTO Activity Fee
Have you paid your student activity fee? This fee helps offset the cost of many activities your child will participate in throughout the school year including: 2 classroom parties, field day, field day shirts, cultural arts, field trip expenses and the student directory.
Help your student’s homeroom win a Bahama Bucks Party! The class that has the highest percentage of paid Activity Fees by September 25 will win!
Voluntary PTO Directory
Several times during the year it might be beneficial to have the contact information for the students in your child's class. Please help us make our directory a success and follow the link! After the information is compiled, a digital copy will be sent to the email provided. Families’ contact information is not provided by the school. For the PTO to create this directory, families must provide their information to the PTO.
Please take a moment and fill out the Millsap Directory by September 5!

Notes from our Nurse
Medication Administration
ALL Over-the-Counter meds must be new and unopened.
Medication is to be delivered and picked up by a parent or guardian and brought to the clinic in the original container labeled with child's name, name of the medication and directions for the time and dosage. Physician's name must be on prescription medication. Students may not carry medications - including cough drops.
Guidelines for Keeping Sick Children Home from School
A sick child who is unable to participate in school in a meaningful way should be kept home to rest and recover until symptoms resolve. Keeping a sick child home also protects other children, school staff, and visiting community members from contracting an illness that can be spread from person to person. Please be aware of the following guidelines for school attendance.
- Fever: A child should remain home with fever greater than 100° F and should only return after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin.
- Diarrhea/Vomiting: A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom free for 24 hours.
- Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Following a diagnosis of pink eye, a child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication has been administered.
If you take your child to a healthcare provider for an illness, please be sure to request a written letter stating when your child may return to school.
Change of Clothing
Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students should bring a change of clothes in their backpack in case of restroom emergencies. Thank you!
Nurse Raney, RN
Absence Notes
Please remember that whenever your child is absent, we must have a note from you explaining why the absence occurred.
All notes must include the child’s first and last name, the date of absence, the reason for the absence, and your signature. If you have a doctor’s excuse please attach it to your note.
Feel free to use the attached form and make copies for future use.
Thank you!
Counselor's Corner
I would like to take the time to explain a few things that I have the pleasure of doing. The biggest component of the day is taking care of the students’ counseling needs. This includes: classroom guidance lessons done on a monthly basis; small group counseling done during the child’s lunch hour; and individual counseling. I absolutely love working with children and their parents. Please feel free to call me at (281) 517-6036 or email me at cynthia.lopez@cfisd.net if you would like to recommend your child for small group counseling. I would like to begin counseling .
Other programs that are done through the counseling department is Credit by Exam testing, Horizon (G/T) testing, ELL Testing and programming, Mentors, and Community Engagement.
As a school counselor, I also can help with connecting to community resources. One community resource is the Houston Food Bank. The Houston Food Bank allows for us to serve as a liaison for a program called Backpack Buddies. We send home canned and nonperishable foods home weekly in a backpack. If you are in need of this program, please call me at (281)517-6036. Other resources include outside therapists, church ministries, ‘Undies for All’, school supplies, backpacks, etc.
When in doubt, please call me or email for any assistance. I look forward to working with you and your family.

BOX TOPS ARE CHANGING!!
You’ll now download the new user-friendly Box Tops App, register, add Millsap Elementary, and then scan eligible receipts containing Box Tops products!
Millsap will earn 10 cents for each Box Tops product purchased plus extra earnings for any Bonus Box Tops opportunities. The app will automatically add Box Tops to Millsap's earnings online, giving visibility to see how you are supporting your school in real-time.
Keep clipping regular Box Tops and sending them to Millsap as long as you continue to find them on packages. We will still get credit for all Box Tops submitted!
More good news: you can ‘double dip’ during the packaging transition by clipping the physical Box Tops AND scanning your receipt with those participating items.
They seem like little things that really won’t make a difference, but they DO!
Since 2010, Millsap has received over $10,300 – a dime at a time!!
Millsap appreciates the time and effort you put into collecting BoxTops!
