COVID -19 Communication
Please remember that children should stay home and the main office should be notified in each of the scenarios below:
- student exhibits symptoms suggestive of COVID-19
- student has been tested for COVID-19 and has results pending, (other than routine screeners)
- student has tested positive for COVID-19
- student has been identified as a close contact of a positive case of COVID-19
Reminders
- It is helpful to pack an extra mask in a sandwich bag or other container to keep in your child's backpack. This helps if their original mask gets soiled during the day. WLE has a supply of masks for students that need a fresh one, but we find most students prefer their own.
- Please send your child with a refillable water bottle as drinking fountains are unavailable during the pandemic. WLE does have refillable water bottle stations as well as cups for children who forget their water bottle.
WLE PTA News
Thank you, WLE PTA!
WLE PTA Seeking Chairperson for Reflections Contest
Congratulations, Wallee!
Over the next couple of weeks, Mrs. Amann will be in contact with families that reported any allergies or fear of dogs to collaborate on supportive plans to meet individual student needs.
Wallee comes with many expenses. WLE would not be able to have a therapy dog without the support of our sponsors. Thank you to all of our sponsors for supporting the therapy dog program and as a result, the social and emotional needs of our students. If you are still interested in donating to support WLE's therapy dog program, please see ways in which you can do so at the end of this newsletter.

End-of-Day Plans for WLE Students
- Ride the school bus home
- Use the Tiger Pickup process to go home in a private vehicle with an approved adult
- Walk home
- Report to Prime Time Care
Communication is key to make for a safe and efficient end of the day. Please clearly communicate the regular end-of-day plan for your child with his/her teacher. Please report any changes to dismissal plans to the main office and to your child's teacher by 3:00 p.m., when possible. Thank you for your partnership in this process.
Tiger Pickup Safety Reminders
- Always use one of the crosswalks at either the bottom or top of the Tiger Pickup loop. Crossing between cars is dangerous for our students.
- Stay in the Tiger Pickup line until the car in front of you pulls forward or you are directed to exit the car line by a WLE staff member. Leaving the car line early creates unnecessary risk for our students and our families.
- Help your child to practice buckling and unbuckling independently.

Peanut Free and Tree Nut Free Snacks Please
Please remember to pack your child's snack separate from his or her lunch box. Our classrooms must remain nut free for the health and safety of students with allergies. Snacks should be nut free and peanut free. Please check labels of the snacks you plan to send to insure that they do not contain any traces of tree nuts or peanuts.
Lunches may contain products with peanuts and tree nuts, but cannot be opened/accessed within the classroom. Therefore, snacks should always be packed separately. There is a designated nut-free table in the cafeteria. However, for snack we will be following a strict no peanut/no tree-nut policy to ensure the safety of all students. Thank you for your cooperation to keep all of our WLE tigers safe and healthy.

Walled Lake Elementary Bell Times
School Begins: 8:55 a.m.
Dismissal: 4:00 p.m.
Please be sure to plan ahead to ensure your child arrives to school on time, each day. The first few minutes are very valuable as children learn to engage in morning routines, check in with their teacher and classmates, learn the plan for the day, and even engage in 1-1 or small group interventions. These first few minutes set the tone for the rest of their day. Students are most successful when they arrive on time.
ALL K-12 FAMILIES MUST COMPLETE
New and Returning WLE Families: Using a Parent ID and the Walled Lake Family Access system, you will need to complete all necessary forms for the online Back-to-School packet for the new school year.
Please use the directions HERE to assist with the online Back-to-School packet.
- The annual paperless Back-to-School Packet must be completed by ALL parents online, using Family Access, prior to the start of school.

WLCSD Food Service Updates
Our hot lunch program begins on Wednesday, August 25th for students in grades K-5. Breakfast AND lunch are FREE to ALL WLE students. Please see below for additional details.
You can always visit Walled Lake's Food Service Website for information by clicking HERE.
Free & Reduced Breakfast/Lunch Information
Please see the letter below from Julie Fortner, Supervisor of Food Services. Although ALL students will be eligible to receive free breakfast and free lunch, we are asking families that have financial hardship and may traditionally qualify for free/reduced lunch to complete the Free/Reduced Lunch Application in Skyward Family Access.
We are pleased to inform you that Walled Lake Consolidated Schools will be participating in the Seamless Summer Option as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the School Year 2021-2022.
The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE to your household each day.
We still need your household to fill out and sign the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application. This information is critical in determining the amount of money that our school receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At-risk (31a), Title II A, E-Rate, etc.
These supplemental programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:
• Instructional supports (staff, supplies & materials, etc.)
• Non-instructional services (counseling, social work, health services, etc.)
• Professional Learning for staff
• Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities
• Technology
• Pandemic-EBT
We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible to ensure that additional funding for our school is available to meet the needs of our students. All information on the application submitted is confidential. Without your
assistance in completing and returning the attached application, our school cannot maximize the use of available State and Federal funds.
If we can be of any further assistance, please contact us at Anne Merchant at 248-956-3081 or at annemerchant@wlcsd.org.
Sincerely,
Julie Fortner
Food Service Supervisor
