A word from Mr Broom

What a week! We've been so busy in school this week that it's seemed to fly by.

On Monday, we had our end of topic showcase for Key Stage Two, with the musical performance of Nature Danger, the song written by all of the children. We also had open classrooms for Key Stage Two and it was lovely to see so many parents come and visit classrooms to view their children's work. When we run these the timing is not always easy for everyone so if you didn't get chance to see your child's work, have a chat with the class teacher who will be only too happy to share their learning with you.

I've had six prospective parents to view school this week! The highest in a week I've ever had. As many of you will be aware, I like to take the time to meet each one individually because parent and school relationships are really important. It looks like our Reception class for 2019 will be filling up very quickly.

We had a super disco on Tuesday evening, raising over £400 for school funds. Thank you so much to everyone who came to support us. The children had a wonderful time.

On Wednesday, a planetarium dome came to the school hall and our Key Stage 2 classes were able to see the show. It was truly a wonderful experience. Thank you to all the families who contributed towards the cost - payments can still be made on ParentPay if you've not had chance to make a contribution yet. We would like to continue to offer these exciting opportunities to our children but to ensure that costs are covered we do need support from parents.

On Thursday our Y3 / Y4 hockey squad came second in the regional hockey finals. We were so proud of them all for showing true resilience and team work. They also looked great in gum shields!

To finish, today is our non-uniform for Children in Need, coupled with Christmas Fair. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported both the charity and the school.

Have a super weekend.

Is it nearly time to put the trimmings up yet?

Nature Danger - The next UK Number One?

Grapes - If you bring 'em, slice 'em

We've noticed that many of our packed lunches contain whole grapes as part of the meal. If you would like to include grapes in your child's pack up, please ensure that all grapes are sliced. This significantly reduces the chance of choking. Thank you.

Parent Helpers Required

Our teachers would really like to know if any of our parents / carers / grandparents would like to support us by spending some time in school reading with children. If you can give an afternoon, please let your class teacher know. They will be very grateful!

Staff Shout Outs

Are you impressed by what our staff do for your child? Let them know! Complete the form below.

Nut Allergies

If your child brings either a snack or a pack up to school, please help us to protect some of our children who have nut allergies by checking that the products you send with them do not contain any nuts. Thank you.

School Attendance

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 5 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%!

Our average attendance this week is 96.8% which is above the national average.

We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.

Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.

Mobiles on Site

Our teachers have planned exciting lessons for all our children and when they leave school, we're confident that they will want to share their day with you. Conversation is really important to your child's development and for this reason, we're asking that you refrain from using your phone on the school site at drop off and pick up times.
