OLVCS Updates
March 31, 2023
Dear Families and Friends of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School,
Though we did not have a school Mass this Friday, our Faith Families met today to reflect upon the approach of Holy Week and our Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem, celebrated on Palm Sunday. I was told of a wonderful connection that an elementary schooler made between this event and often portrayed pregnant Mary riding on a donkey to Bethlehem. The journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem would have taken them directly through Jerusalem: One hidden entrance into the city and one revealed. Additionally, students were asked to focus on the first lines of Psalm 18 and express how Jesus Christ exemplifies to them a phrase within that psalm. Here is the passage: “I love you, LORD, my strength, LORD, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my God, my rock of refuge, my shield, my saving horn, my stronghold!”
The Lord is all that the Psalm indicates, and he asks us to participate in the protection of all those in our care which is why the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors is vital. We continually enhance our security efforts by investing significant time and resources at our Pre-school through 8th grade facilities. We do not consider this work to ever be complete, which is why we continually adjust procedures and upgrade our facilities to stay current. We are exceedingly grateful for the financial support toward these efforts and for the cooperation we receive from our school community with our safety procedures, and we are immeasurably blessed by the expertise of Terry Stec and the relationship our school has with local law enforcement and other emergency services.
On a different note, as a warmer season has arrived (almost), we have noticed that many of our students have grown a lot! A used uniform sale is planned in the near future (see details below).
I will not send out a newsletter next week, so I would like to wish everyone a blessed Holy Week and a Happy Easter!
In Christ,
Jim Hoy
