Anoka High School - Commencement Ceremony Update
The commencement ceremony honoring the Anoka High School class of 2023 will be held on Monday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at Historic Goodrich Field (1798 4th Ave., Anoka), weather permitting. Should there be inclement weather, the make-up date will be Tuesday, June 6 at the same time and location. Tickets are not required for the ceremony, however, seating is general admission with no additional restrictions.
Goodrich Field will be open for seating at 5 p.m. Maintaining a safe and secure school environment for graduation is a top priority for the Anoka Family. As we get closer to graduation we also want to inform attendees of some enhanced safety and security procedures aimed to improve our graduation experience. New this year we are limiting seating to the stands only. No guests will be allowed onto the field before and during the ceremony. Only after the ceremony can families and guests come onto the field to take photos. We will have security at entrance gates to remind patrons to stay off the field and remain outside the fences until the ceremony is concluded.
Graduation is a formal dignified public ceremony and a proud tradition at Anoka High School. During the ceremony we ask that families and guests help to make this a positive experience for the graduates. This includes refraining from moving seats, cheering loudly as student names are being read and causing any distraction.
Seniors and parents will be given more specific details regarding Graduation after the Senior Advisement Meeting on Monday, May 22nd.
Academic Honors Assembly
Anoka High School will be celebrating our seniors' academic achievements at our Academic Honors Assembly on Tuesday, May 30th at 7:00 pm in the fieldhouse.
Honors graduation status is determined by cumulative GPA and number of Honors courses completed with a C or higher.
Highest Honors students have a weighted GPA of 3.90 and a total of 10 honors credits. Students receiving this distinction will be wearing gold cords at graduation.
High Honors students have a weighted GPA at and above a 3.60 and a total of 6 honors credits. Students receiving this distinction will be wearing silver cords at graduation.
Honors students have a weighted GPA at and above a 3.30 with no honor course requirements. Students receiving this distinction will be wearing white cords at graduation.
For students to receive an Academic Letter their senior year they need to have a cumulative weighted GPA at or above a 3.75.

Anoka High School's CIS - College Algebra takes part in Field Day at the U of M
Anoka High School’s CIS - College Algebra through Modeling course participated in a Field Day at the University of Minnesota on April 26th, 2023. During the Field Day one of our groups won first place against other metro high schools for their presentation on gun law effectiveness in the United States! Our winning group was composed of seniors Ben Duerr and Jacob Eyong. Here is a LINK to their presentation. “The CIS course encouraged us to approach real world problems through a mathematical lens which I found as a nice change from all my previous math courses. I found it captivating to see how math could be used in the world around us and applied to our lives!” - Ben Duerr
Anoka’s CIS Math Modeling class is open to all seniors that have passed Advanced Algebra with a C or higher. After completion of the 2 trimester class, the students receive 3 credits at the U of M, saving students roughly $1800 in tuition. The credits are also transferable to most post-secondary schools.
For all underclassmen interested in taking the course, Jacob Eyong had this to say about his experience, “the class does most of its activities in partners or groups and there is an overall vibe to help each other succeed. If you plan to take this class, which I would recommend, bring your creativity and plan to build friendships! Math is everywhere.”
Varsity Baseball continues to roll on as Senior Louis Hertling throws No-Hitter!
The Varsity baseball team traveled across town to face Coon Rapids on Thursday afternoon in a Northwest Suburban Conference tilt. The Tornadoes bolted to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and never took their foot off the gas in a 12-0 win at Coon Rapids HS. Senior Louis Hertling toed the rubber for Anoka and had a historic day. Hertling fired a no-hitter, striking out seven Cardinals and walking just two. Additionally, Hertling paced the Tornadoes going 4-4 with five RBI in the game. Hertling's no-hitter was the first since Alex Farley's vs Princeton in 2016. The Tornadoes are now 12-4 on the season and 8-3 in NWSC play.
