Weekly Message
Happy Summer! Thank you for ending the year in such a positive way. I am excited that our students will have many summer opportunities to continue learning. Your efforts to connect them with engaging activities is greatly appreciated.
Please take a minute to scroll down and review preliminary ISIP data for the 2016-17 school year. There are many celebrations. So often we are asked if ACE is sustainable. This is the answer: yes, when we ensure all students READ on or above grade level before 3rd grade.
PK-2 teachers, please know you are vitally important and greatly appreciated. These tremendous scores are a testament to your dedication. This proves that effective teachers in the classroom make the most difference. Our top ACE strategy for change is using TEI to restaff struggling schools, and it's working.
Our success is also attributed to fidelity with the daily balanced literacy schedule, guided reading, professional development with the Early Learning department, Neuhaus Phonics with AASI, 6-week ISIP assessment reviews, and strong campus leaders.
I will continue to send updates throughout the summer related to test scores and professional development opportunities. However, the most important message I want to share is deep gratitude for your service and many wishes for a restful and rejuvenating summer.
Best Regards,
Jolee Healey

Location: 2909 N. Buckner, Room 810
SchoolNet Code: 1000007748
Description:
Spelling is a skill that needs to be taught formally since students do not always automatically deduce the patterns of the language. In the Scientific Spelling course, participants learn that the formal teaching of reliable patterns and rules enables students to spell a high percentage of English words without memorization. Special memory strategies are taught for irregular words. The information about the English language for spelling allows students to spell accurately and confidently as they write. The same knowledge also reinforces important patterns for reading. A suggested weekly spelling schedule is included showing how spelling can be taught in as few as 15 minutes a day. Using Scientific Spelling, students do not memorize a list words, but rather they learn how to spell for a lifetime.
* This session is for K-3 Reading/Language Arts Teachers and CICs who are currently using Neuhaus and were previously trained in August 2016. CICs are required to attend. *
