Sunday Call for week of February 21st, 2022
Good evening Sierra Madre Families, this is Mrs. Lewis, your principal. We have another short week this week as we do not have school tomorrow to honor our Presidents.
Here are the announcements for this week:
Monday, February 21st there is no school.
Wednesday, February 23rd is our SSC council meeting at 4pm virtually. Please join us by clicking on the link in the SMORE, to hear about next year's funding for both federal and state.
Thursday, February 24th Cooper Christensen, Bella Williams, Ava Descallar, Dean Castrone, and Aleksandra Ayvazyan will represent SME in the virtual African-American History Bee. Good luck kiddos!

SEEDs
SEED would like to thank everyone who participated in Thursday night's SEED Summit. Congratulations to the winners of the one day family museum passes! If you were able to participate in the Summit, SEED would love your feedback! Please complete the SEED Summit evaluation included the SMORE.
Please be sure to check out SEED’s February resource guide included in the SMORE and Wednesday folders. This month SEED is celebrating African American History Month. Check out the resource guide to learn more about American History from an African American perspective.

Health and Wellness Reminders
- Each classroom is allowed to have 2 "parties" per year, chosen by the teacher
- Food for parties must follow the wellness policy, pages 10-15
- Birthday celebration food must also follow the wellness policy
Student Drop off
- Students will continue to answer whether they have answered the health screening questions at home(see above)
- Students will continue to show their mask, or get one from staff, to enter school
- NO drop off in the staff parking lot
- Parents/Guardians will drop off to school staff, rather than walking on campus
COVID Screening and Testing at SME
Please STAY HOME if you have ANY symtoms.
Screening Questions Daily before coming to school
- Do I have a fever?
- Do I have a cough?
- Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
- Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days?
- In the last 10 days, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?
How and Where PUSD Students and Employees Can Get Tested
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses and at the District’s Primary Clinic, 8 a.m. - 3:30 pm. By appointment, please call (626) 396-3600, ext 88180
On PUSD campuses(SME) weekly testing, on Thursdays, is available for ALL students and staff.

We are holding at 86% of students registered.
STEPS to follow if you get a POSITIVE COVID test result
1. Immediately isolate from all others(family, school, sports, after-school enrichment and daycare)
2. Contact Mrs. Lewis/Ms. Rupp to notify POS results
3. Expect a phone call/contact from Health Department for specific information and quarantine next steps
4. Receive a short-term independent study agreement from SME
5. Complete assigned school work, if feeling well
6. Call and/or contact school/teacher if any questions
STEPS to follow if you are requesting and Independent Study(IS) Agreement
1. Send an email to your kid's teacher and Mrs. Lewis to request an IS agreement
2. Include which days you are agreeing to work remotely on the Canvas work posted by the teacher.
3. Include if you are choosing to do an IS or if you are needing to, due to an exposure or POSITIVE COVID-19 lab confirmed PCR test.
*If your kiddo is fully vaccinated, they will NEED to test at school, or outside of school with a PCR lab-confirmed test EVERY week, in order to bypass quarantine guidelines!

Vaccination Clinics for PUSD
We have been conducting weekly vaccination clinics on Mondays in the south parking lot at the Ed Center.
2022 #VaccinatePasadena Video Contest
I hope that this message finds you well. I’d like to introduce you to Maggie Angon, our PPHD Promotora Lead. Maggie heads our department group of Promotoras (community health workers), who educate and inform the community of various Public Health initiatives, including COVID-19 vaccinations. You may have seen Maggie and her wonderful team of ambassadors around town – at vaccination clinics, farmer’s markets, community events, schools, and more! They work at meeting our community where they are, and encouraging trust in Public Health to reduce health disparities.
