From Your Pastors
Our current message series entitled “Building Resilience in Challenging Times” continues this week as we look at a rather obscure Old Testament prophet named Hosea. This week we examine how “forgiveness” helps build a resilient faith. The series is built on Isaiah 40.31 – Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. We will be moving to a new message series in mid-October dealing with identifying and developing your spiritual gifts.
The past two weekends Zion has had an opportunity to meet and greet two of the finalists for Senior Pastor – Rev. Zach McIntosh (Concordia, San Antonio) and Rev. Chris Singer (Trinity, Klein). The Board of Elders is currently gathering input from Zion members related to these candidates. If you would like to share your comments related to their visits, you can either contact your Elder or email comments to elders@zionwalburg.org. ALL comments need to be submitted by Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Next Sunday we will be remembering LWML during our worship services. The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League has been a vital part of Zion for many years supporting the mission and ministry of both our congregation and through international projects.
Remember the “Connection” schedule has a full slate of activities and Bible study classes for all ages beginning at 9:30 AM. Three adult Bible studies are being offered along with Kids Connect and activities for junior and senior high students. We will also begin a “new member class” this Sunday at 12 noon in the Parlor.
Please keep your pastors informed on how we can serve you and your family. Call (512.863.3065) or email the church office (church@zionwalburg.org) with any news to share. And if you need to miss a Sunday, you can always view the messages and worship services archived on our website: www.zionwalburg.org. See you Sunday!
THE LESSONS THIS SUNDAY – Hosea 1.2-5, 14.1-7; Colossians 3.12-14; Matthew 6.9-15
Pastor Kevin & Pastor Dave
Senior Pastor feedback wanted
Thank you to everyone who participated in our congregational events over the last two weekends – meeting and connecting with Pastor McIntosh (wife Melody) and Pastor Singer (wife Jeanette) - our two finalists for Senior Pastor. The Elders and Call Committee would like to receive any input and/or insights regarding your impression of these candidates. Please send whatever comments you may have by Tuesday, September 27. This decision for our congregation greatly impacts the future of Zion and your participation is encouraged. You may submit input in one or more of the following ways:
1) Send an email to elders@zionwalburg.org (This is the general email box for the Board of Elders)
2) Contact your elder directly via email, text, phone, or in person.
3) If all else fails, you can send me (John Buser) a text or call (512) 585-6094. I do not have all of your contacts in my phone so it's likely I won't answer an unfamiliar number. Take heart, if I don't answer, please leave a message and I will get back with you.
Finally, the most important contribution you can make to this process is to pray for God's guidance. God is leading Zion to great things, and he will make sure that we have the right candidate in place to help us get where he is leading us. If you do not have a prayer in mind, then feel free to use this one....
"Heavenly Father, your hand is in all things. We ask for your guidance now as we contemplate the person who will become Zion’s next Senior Pastor. We ask that you quiet our hearts and minds and open our ears to listen to your guidance. Lead us to make a decision that is consistent with what you want for this congregation. In the name of Jesus, Amen." Elder John Buser

Welcome New Youth Director
A Message From the Principal
Safety Audit Completed
Chief Denney and his team came to Zion this past week from the city of Jarrell to complete this most important audit. Recommendations are forthcoming. These will assist the church and school to prioritize and make appropriate changes. Part of this audit was also to let us know the positives of our current system and processes, as related to safety.
Fence and Gates also Completed
Both the south and north sections are now completed. They are aesthetically pleasing and most importantly – they secure the entire campus for all students and staff.
3rd Grade Bible Blessing
Both of our third classes, under the direction of Mrs. Rachel Mayberry (Director of Children’s Ministry) - received their very own Bibles, plus highlighters and other tools for students to be able to use in the reading and studying of God’s Word. Parents, teachers, our pastors, and the principal all signed their Bibles, and this past Monday we invited everyone to our Worship Center for a ceremony. It was an incredibly meaningful day.
Cross Country Meet
On Friday the 30th of September Concordia High School (our Lutheran high) and Zion will co-host a middle and high school cross country meet on our campus, using our walk/run trail and our great spaces on campus. All are welcome! Our very own middle school cross country team will be competing. The high schoolers will race first, right when school begins, and the middle schoolers will race sometime after 8:45 am.
Field Trips
Our teachers love to enrich the curriculum through meaningful field trips. We also love to have parents participate, too. These are a great extension of learning for all. At times we will take our bus and at other times parents will assist with driving. We have already begun these trips. They are always well received.
Mr. Wrege’s Health
You have all been praying for our principal to get back to good health since his accident on the 3rd of September. He had fallen from a ladder at 14 feet and is slowly recovering. We are thankful there were no bones broken, but we ask that you continue to pray for his full recovery. The cards, smiles, high-fives, and check-ins have all been much appreciated.
Pastoral Visits Completed
We have had two pastoral candidates visit our campus the last two weeks, as the Zion congregation seeks and prays for a new senior pastor. Soon a decision will be made to extend a biblical Call to one of the candidates to consider becoming part of our wonderful staff. Please continue to pray for us at this most crucial time.

Concordia High School and Concordia University Scholarships
The Board of Elders administers scholarships that support communicant members of Zion Lutheran Church and School to attend Concordia High School and Concordia University. We are currently supporting one high school and two college students.
The Concordia Academy Scholarship Fund was created to support communicant members of Zion Lutheran Church and School that attend Concordia High School, Pflugerville, Texas.
The Concordia University System Scholarship fund is used to financially assist Zion communicate members attending a Concordia University System school and who are pursuing a degree in a field other than full-time church work, subject to the rules of the scholarship fund.
Funding for the Concordia Academy Scholarship and Concordia University System Scholarship rely solely on donations and giving for funding.
The Dr. E. George Becker Endowment was created to provide funding for the Dr. E. George Becker Scholarship fund to support communicant members of Zion Luther Church and School to attend Concordia University and are enrolled in a course of study leading to full-time professional church work in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. This scholarship is funded by the Endowment and donations.
Please consider a donation to any of these important scholarships and endowment so Zion can continue to support a Christian high school and college education for our communicant members.

Landscape Improvement Fund
The Board of Trustees are beginning the process to provide new landscaping within the asphalt driveways surrounding the Sanctuary/Worship Center (new building) to the South parking lot. The costs are estimated to be around $180,000. Therefore, the Landscape Improvement Fund will be created as a new church dedicated account to help fund these efforts. Please prayerfully consider donating to the Landscape Improvement Fund to help cover these costs to beautify Zion’s campus.
Wurstbraten - How the Torch is Passed!
In this announcement I would like to encourage anyone who was at the first Wurstbraten or got involved later to relate how they got involved, what they started doing and how they got to be involved to the point where they are now. This is especially relevant for those who are now considered captains. If you have a special memory of how you saw this relatively small activity blossom and morph into what it has become I am hoping that you would share this with the rest of us. Please send it to me by email or put it in the box.
If you would like to be part of the process to come up with the design and implementation please contact Weldon at 512-635-6429 or email at 49weldon72@gmail.com.

The Lutheran Hour
Sharing the Gospel in Understandable Ways
Lutheran Hour Ministries' global ministry model is different from most mass communications ministries. LHM uses locally established ministry centers to share the Gospel with people around the world more than 150 million times each week. Each ministry center is a center of operation placed in strategic locations around the world and staffed with local, indigenous staff members and volunteers who have a passion for sharing the Gospel and a willingness to proclaim it throughout their community. They understand the linguistic and cultural nuances that are essential to effective and accurate communication, especially when it comes to something as important as the life-transforming message of the Gospel.
By identifying, developing, and using resources in local languages that are culturally relevant and attractive, LHM staff seeks to proclaim the hope and salvation found in the Word of God by reaching out to people of all nations and building trust with those individuals to connect them in fellowship to a local Christian community.
In carrying out its mission statement of "Bringing Christ to the Nations - and the Nations to the Church", LHM employs a variety of methods and programs.
